Hi, I'm new to the forum. I have already posted for some advise before introducing myself. Apologies. I must say, everybody has been a great help and very friendly. And I can't wait to tap into more of the experience on this forum. I bought a used Lada Niva 1.7i about a week ago from a bloke in JHB. I think it is a 1996 model, not sure. I wanted to start with the whole 4x4 lifestyle for some time now, and after seeing a clip of a Lada out performing a Landy, well the it was an easy choice on what vehicle to buy. The Lada has been left outside for some time, and has a couple of dents in it. Oil leaks. Rear wheel bearing that is not lekker. Rear wiper missing, generally she looks bad, but for some reason I had to have her, so she standing in the garage being stripped and cleaned. The bloke also converted her from 4x4 to rear wheel drive, so I will need to convert her back again. He did it via Lada Centurion and after reading the general page, I may have to find somewhere else to do the convert back to 4x4. Thanks for the heads up on them. Ok, that's it. Starting to feel like my first AA meeting.

No worries Grimmwolf it is real nice to have you on board If it's a 1.7i it could well be a later model than the 96. I think Mike or Ventz posted some details on how to ID what model you are driving but I can't find it for the moment. If your front diff is still ok and you have a working transfer case and the original front and rear propshafts the work is almost done. If not it could be an expensive conversion. Let us know how things are going and shout if you need some help Marius

Hi Grimmwolf,
Welcome aboard. When it comes to 4x4 lifestyle I think you made the right choice by getting a Lada. Your Lada sounds like it is in the same state mine was when I got mine a couple of months back. It's a lot of work, but it is a joy to work on the Lada (even for noobs like me). And there always seem to be at least someone (if not more) around on the forum that can help you.
Welcome again,
Jaco

Welcome Grimmwolf I have only owned my Lada (the Rustovich) for a few months and have found the Forum to be a place of honest and open advice. Download the manuals - Yes they are free :-) and get to know YOUR lada in a way that no modern car can compare. Remember too that LOCSA is what WE the members make it

Hi Grimm. Welcome bud. Our forum is really great and sometimes quite funny. Like spikes and his advice. There are actually a couple of pro's that can help you, too. Regards Spencer
