Hi Guys
I'm looking for a heat shield for my starter motor, as once my engine is nicely warmed up I cant switch off the engine. (or I have to push start)
New or 2nd hand.

Hi Ari
I am not so sure that it will start even with a heat shield. I have none and no matter how hot the starter is it will start. Before you even go that route make up a wire with a connector on, fit it too the starter so you can start by touching the wire to the battery. Then try to start direct from the battery when it is warm.

Maybe Charles. My Lada starts fine when cold though so it seems to be heat related I think.

Hi Charles
You are probably 100% correct. That is why I asked for Ari to try a wire direct from the battery. With the increase in voltage it will probably be enough to energize the solenoid. I would then agree with you for sure. If you were to cut the solenoid open you would in all probability find the contacts badly burnt.

Hi Ronnie
There are 2 wires to the solenoid, 1 from the battery and a other one which is the one I am guesssing you mean?

Ari if it works with the wire as Ronnie suggests let me know and I will tell you what to do for time being.

Hi Charles
Telling him to put a relay close to the starter is a very temp cure.

Hi Ari
Why would anyone put a relay there?. Only for one reason to try to get a dicky starter solenoid to work!!.

Hi Ari
If that relay is fed from the battery you could be wasting your time trying a wire direct from the battery. I was only trying to boost the voltage going to the solenoid. Looks like someone beat me to it.

What confuses me is that it works cold but not hot, or only sometimes when hot. Ari

Hi Ari
The symptoms are exactly like a faulty solenoid. That is exactly how they perform.

It sounds like a faulty relay. Move the relay away from the chassis to the top of the engine bay and also fit a new relay.
Regards.
