Hi Guys
My Lada loses power (shudders) only at low speed, sometimes even cutting out completely. My gut feeling, the fuel system is dirty starving the carb of fuel.
My questions are, is there anything else that could cause this problem and what is the best way to clean out the fuel system?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Jakes
I do not think your carb is being starved of fuel as It would then happen at speed when you are using more fuel. All I can suggest is you clean the idle circuit and idle jet with carb cleaner and an air blast. It does sound like a carburettor problem. while doing this clean all the fuel filters at the same time, 1 each in the fuel pump and the carb inlet. You can visually check the inline filter.

Hi Jakes
Take your carb apart carefully, wash evcerything out with some CLEAN petrol. reassemble. Before you reconnect the fuel line change the fuel filter and then run the pump to pump any dirt that may still be in the lines catching the fuel in a suitable container.
What carb do you have?

Ronnie Hi Ronnie Yesterday, before doing any work on the car, I was driving along, the Lada did her usual wobble here and there, eventually she cut out completely and then refused to start. I thought that the carb could be starved of fuel, but could it not be the other way around... its actually flooding? The is quite a strong smell of petrol coming from the car.

Hi Jakes
Do as vincent has suggested and see if this cures the problem. Make sure the needle and seat are doing their job. Let us know what happens.

My Lada used to chug fuel like a V8 Land Rover with SU carbs. After cleaning the carb out - Miraculously the Lada idles sweetly and now only glugs.
