Hi there everyone,
My accelerator pump diaphragm on my carbi has a small tear in it. I have "patched" it with some silicone but I would think it is only a very temporary fix. The carbi is a stock one. Is there a generic diaphragm one could use or is this a "Lada only" kinda thing?
In advance, t'nx for the input.
Jaco

Best would be to contact Ventz and get a new one.

Hi Jaco
Vincent has just replaced that same diaphragm with a (in his words) a highly modified Toyota one. I am not sure how he did it, but if you can`t get one from Ventz, I am sure he will tell you.

Hi Jaco.
If you can get a kit from Ventz - It would be easier.
the toyota kit (R76.00 ) has a diapragm that is dimensionally identical. the diffrence is the pin on the back. the toyota one is larger in diameter.
i sawed the lada pin off and glued it to the back of the toyota (also sawed off) with a loctite structural 2 part adhesive.
The OEM kit would have been easier ;-)

Hi Jaco
just noted that you are in Sun City. the toyota mod would probably be the fastest mod until you can get the OEM kit. Careful application of Quickset steel would also work to glue the pin on the backing.
You may need to shim the diaphragm to get it leak free (the other diaphragm in the kit works well once you have cut the centre out)

Hi all, Thank you for the info regarding the Toyota mod. I mailed Ventz and I'll see if he has originals as I'm not in too much of a rush. I have many other things to do on the Lada in the meantime. If not I'll have a go at the mod. Happy Lada day, Jaco

No need for a mod as Ventz has the part.

Glad that your Niva is up and running again.
My carb is going to need a clean. The sucker will not idle without hunting.
What should the fuel pressure be at the carb? Perhaps the electric pump has too high a delivery pressure for the Russion Carb.

Should be low otherwise it will force the neewdle and seat open and flood.

Hi Vincent from the manual"The fuel pump can be tested on a stand. By rotating the drive shaft at 2000±40 rpm, check the fuel delivery by the pump to be at least 54 litre/hour at 20±5¡, while the supply pressure at ÇzeroÈ fuel delivery must be 0.02-0.03 Pà (0.21-0.30 kg/cm2 )." Hope this helps. Ronnie 3lbs/sq.in sounds about right

Hmm. I wonder if the fuel flooding into the carb could be the problem? Perhaps a low pressure pump might do wonders....

What pump do you have? Get a facet pump. Mount it on rubber piecesm you get round rubbers that gets used on bakkie anti roll bars that works perfect.

I got a Huco 443000 fitted next to the tank and the return blanked off.
If the carb flood with petrol then either the float level is to high, the needle and seat is dirty inside or the seat of the needle and seat is loose.
Regards.

Hi Vincent
Fuel pressure is not your problem as you have a facet pump fitted. Youre problem is carb related exactly as per the solex was on mine. You also still have the return to tank line still fitted.

The fuel pressure must be between 3.087 and 4.41 PSI or 0.21 - 0.3 Bar.

Hi Hercules
I have a Chinese version of the Huco pump fitted to mine, but I still have the return to tank line connected. I prefer an electric pump to a mechanical.
