Hi
A few days ago I lost a 10cm piece of the black gutter moulding on the passenger side. Any ideas on how to repair this moulding?

Hi Mrius
Do you still have the broken/ missing piece. If so you can carefully "weld" it back together with a soldering iron very carefully. If it is missing you have no choice but to buy a new trim.

Hi Ronnie Unfortunately I lost it somewhere between Potch and Ventersdorp. If one can buy it, it would be very tricky to transport it safely Regards Marius

Hi Marius
Yes, it would be hard to transport. You used to be able to buy rolls of chrome trim at the spare shops, but wither it is still available or not I do not know. There is none on mine, but to do it properly you need to do preparation before respraying the vehicle. By the way mine was not prepared properly, no surprise of course.

Ronnie you still get it. All different types. Even one that will work perfectly in the windscreen rubbers.

The trim I'm referring to is the black plastic moulding running along the gutters.

Hi Marius You could consider refitting the moulding from the front to the back and cut it off at the rear of the roof line. Cut the same section off on the other side to give you a balanced look. Regards Spikes

Thanks Spikes I will look into it but the trim does not seem to be too flexible though.
I am also looking at inserting a suitable piece of plastic to make up for the unsightly gap.

Hi Marius
I would be very care full if you try to move the trim in relation to it`s present position. I do not have this piece of trim but from memory it is very hard and even with heat I think it will shatter if you try to re bend it. Rather check at the local (good) spares shop and see if they have new available. Either that or remove both sides, but you will then see the spot welds etc which hold the parts together.

My trimming is also very fragile from baking in the sun and I lost a piece too. Was wondering how to fix-/get hold of it. Thanks guys! I'm thinking of just replacing everything.

Needles to say, my LADA now sleeps in the garage and the C180 outside! Wife's car in the shed.
If the Niva takes you everywhere, surely it should sleep in a nice place!?!

Where would one find the gutter moulding (Midas, autozone etc.?)

Try Midas or a auto sport store.

Gutter moulding - original at my place, but let it delay for August. It's only a cosmetic item.

I'm thinking of taking mine off as it is racked and broken and spraying it with a rubberizer or something after treating the gutters for rust.

Hi Guys The lovely Nikita is missing a couple of those thingies that hold the back of the back seat in place and I would like to replace them. They look something like a pop rivet with a big head but I haven’t seen anything like them in the local hardware shops and I don’t have a sample. Can anyone tell me what I ask for and where I go looking for these? Thanks a stack. NIKKI

Hi Nikki Nelspruit Fasteners in Citrus Crescent comes to mind, they used to stock upholstery and trim fasteners. Then Keith supplied a website www.skiffy.com/ that will be able to help. You will find the "thingies" proper name on Skiffy's site Nice new avatar!! Spikes

Hi Guys I recently treated NIKITA to some new rubber trim for her tailgate recess which I would like to fit this weekend. Is it just a case of removing the old rubber, cleaning the area and then pushing the new stuff on?? Looking at the new stuff the bottom area, that will push onto the recess, seems to be stuck together and seems quite difficult to separate. What would be the best way for me to do this without damaging the rubber. As always any assistance would be appreciated. NIKKI

Hi Nikki
The answer to your first question is YES. Your second question I don`t fully understand. The tailgate seal should be simply pushed on to the lip after cleaning the recess and touching up any damaged paint. It should not be necessary to stretch the seal to make it fit.

Hi Nikki
Let the new seal lie in the sun to warm it up while you remove the old seal. Starting in the middle section at the top and work down to the bottom middle may be the easiest.

Hi Nikki,
I did this recently as well and its a 10 minute job.
Just pull the old rubber off and then push the new rubber over the metal lip that runs around the tailgate opening. You may have to loosen some of the screws on the various trim panels to get it to fit in nicely though.
Also remember to make sure that the join in the rubber seal is at the bottom by the lock area as its less likely to leak here.
Good luck.

Thanks for getting back to me guys! Sorry for confusing you, Ronnie, but I was having difficulty trying to separate the bottom edges of the rubber trim which are joined in a similar way to those ‘Zip Seal’ plastic bags. I subsequently resolved the problem using a ruler and it will probably be easier after leaving it in the sun as suggested by Spikes. Thanks for the extra tips Conrad! NIKKI
