Hi Loukie, You have sitting up and listening seriously. Where did you fit the beather hose from the transfer box? For the life of me I cannot remember a breather cap on it. Please help out. There must be pressure build up on the box with nowhere to vent. Regards Spikes

Hi Spikes
At the back of the TC - near the top you should find the breather.
Regards Marius

Thanks Marius, from under the Lada looking from the back of the TC you will see the breather. I took the breathers out, took the caps of, drilled it out slightly larger - 5.5mm (I think) inserted (pressed) in 6mm copper tubed and attached the 6mm gasline pipes all the way to and high up in the engine bay. If I remember correct the breather on the rear diff needs to be unscrewed. The others just push/press in place.
As soon as I can get time to close some unwanted holes in the floor I intend to take the Lada swimming - OK just wading in some knee deep water!

Hi Loukie If you do a lot of water crossing it would be wize to change the breathers like you did. Mind you it would be a good thing anyway Where I live the road to the farm is quite bad and in summer the rain floods the deep dongas and turning them into deep pools - still I had no water contamination as yet in the boxes with the standard breathers. I looked at the breathers today. I do not think they will suck water in. Too good a design.

Hi Charles
I agree with you the Niva breathers are of a good design, but if you are going to do serious wading rather extend the breathers up to a high level as there is little cost involved. The front diff and the gearbox especially is impossible to do in place.
