Has anyone fitted an electrical radiator fan? Thinking about installing one since I drive in traffic quite a bit and it gets a bit hot in summer here, but wondering how it affects the power and if its really necessary. Specifically looking at the 1.7i, here is diy link, seems quite simple, well sort of. www.lada.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9339Regards Koos

Yes plenty of us has one. Remove the the vacuum temp switch on the intake manifold. Tap and fit elchin fs 2001 and use that to activate the relay for the fans. Im sure Ronnie wil comment tomorrow with detailed instructions.

The 1.7i has no vacuum temperature switch.
It is recommended a manual switch on the dashboard to operate the auxiliary fan. If the thermostat works OK, it is not necessary any extra fan. Very occasionally the temperature rises, for example - if the car climbs Sani Pass, but for short period of time.

Hi Koos Your link is the proper way to control a fan in a 1.7i Niva. The ecu will then control the cut in and out temp. Two things I do not like in the installation are 1) the use of scotch locks which I consider as RUBBISH . Rather solder and tape as you will then have a connection which will last forever. 2) rather fit the fans in front of the radiator (make sure the fan is designed for this) as you now have the option of 1 mechanical and two electric if needed. This combination was perfect when I installed the A/C. A lot of the fans fitted by the aftermarket A/C fitment centers to change from blowing to sucking, you only need to reverse the electrical connections to the fan and reverse the fan blades on the motor. I will check if I still have a pic of my fan installation as it may have disappeared with my laptop. Ronnie Attachments:

hi Ventz
This is one place where I differ from you, always have automatic control, this way you cannot forget and do damage.

Thanks guys.
Will consider putting an aux in with a manual switch in the cabin. Just checked the manual and it seems the normal running temp is about 95 and as far as I remember I have not seen it go over that yet, even in traffic.
