That is just the bumper. Dont know how avalible those trims are seeing as the Sidekick was spesially build for SA.

Hi Stephen
Personally I would have shoved the car up somewhere where it hurts.
A good place to start hunting for those parts is from Ventz - but you can also consider the other two local importers.
The other route you can take is to import directly from Russia or the UK/EU - it is also a cheaper alternative.
I have said it before but the Lada is the best teacher I ever had - enjoy!

Hi Steven
Check for brake fluid on discs or oil or brake fluid on rear drums.

Hi Steven
If the front disks are badly worn, both pads and disks are avalible aftermarket. Pads ask for Niva pads and disks ask for Lada Samara at your local spares shop.

Charles, Marius, Ronnie I checked the disks - it's about 4mm thick, looks a bit thin. Please advise. The pads is about 5mm thick. Did not check the rear drums. Also noticed excessive play on the front diff, can turn the wheels +- 15mm before propshaft start turning. The front diff was also locked, though the diff lock lever was pushed forward. Managed to unlock front wheels by turning it to and fro while fiddling with the gear levers. Will try the car Sunday morning to church. If the disks is too thin, I'll try for replacements. Regards Stephen

What is the better option: 4/5-speed G/B? Stephen Hi Stephen To my mind it all depends on your personal driving habits, and for what purposes the car will be used. If you do a lot of long distance traveling, and usually drives faster than 100 km/h - I think a 5 speed box would be a better option. If you usually do shorter distances at lower speed, I wouldn't be bothered about a five speed box. On a positive note - you obviously can't have 5th gear problems on a 4 speed gearbox . Replacement cost of a worn 5th gear as well as the "driving gear" of the 5th gear (usually also have to be replaced when the 5th gear is worn) are apparently about 4K, and you will never face that costs anyway. With 4k you could obviously buy some fuel - so I would rather stick to the 4 speed box. Regards Danie

Hi Stephen The diff lock lever locks the central diff in the transfer case. The NIVA is in permanent 4 wheel drive. Have a look at the 1600's Drivers manual in the Tech Section on the home page regards Spikes

Hi Spikes
I think Stephen means the Transfer Box was locked, despite the fact that the Transfer Lock gearlever (short one in front) was in the forward position.
If that is the case - there seems to be a definate problem, because the Transfer lock is unlocked when the short (front) gearlever is in the forward position.

Hi Stephen
Those disks are way too thin. may not be thinner than 9mm. I would replace those disks and pads. Never put old pads on new disks.

Hi Stephen
Before you buy anything - if I were you I would rather have another serious talk with the Car Dealer.
I don't want to scare you, but it sounds like this Lada has been driven around on normal roads while the Transfer Lock has been locked all the time.
If that's the case, the complete drivetrain has been submitted to abnormal stress all the time - specially when the car has been driven on tar.
I honestly hope I haven't spoiled your day.
Regards
Danie

Daniel & Everyone Good morning I trust that there is not damage to the diff. I lifted the front right wheel and try turning it by hand, which I could not. Moving the short lever back and fro while my son doing the same hit the wheel eventually freed something. We did not use force, only short movements. I,m planning to take the car to Mike for a check-up. I cannot go back to the dealership. He is in Knysna. I wrote him an e-mail stating my complaints. He wrote back and I answered him. In the end I told him that he sold me a lemon, but I'm using it for lemonade. I consider the case closed, but I hope to meet him someday in person. Please tell me where you usually get spares for brakes: Midas or Ferobrake? We are off to Church now. Keep well and enjoy your Sunday. Regards Stephen.

Hi Stephen
You should be able to get everything at Midas. Best would be to compare prices first.
I think it is a good idea to take the car to Mike so he can check it over. He will tell you everything that is wrong on the car. Then you can take it from there and start from a point and work thru the car.
Everthing on the Niva you can do it yourself. So you will save alot of money there. Will be nice if you can start a repair thread. If you have any more questions just ask. Everyone here is willing to help.
Hope you get it sorted soon.
Charles
