There are so many things that can cause engine noise - but I would start at the timing itself. It could be pinging that you hear. Thanks Marius, I'll double check that as well.

Spraying engine components? it's one of the most fulfilling things in life. Fact. The day I resprayed my aircleaner, tappet cover and exhaust manifold was a good day indeed. That, along with a spotlessly clean engine, is happiness. ;D ;D ;D That is exactly what I was doing.

I had a go at the timing chain tensioner (TCT) again this morning. I followed Ventz's steps by jacking up the right front wheel and while I have her in 5th gear I turned her forward a couple of times. But with the cap on the TCT, but loosened up a bit. After a couple of turns I gave the cap 2 firm taps and tightened the cap up nicely. I fired her up and rev'ed her up and she sounded sweet. Now to take her for a ride a bit later. ;D

Hi Jaco
That is a new method for me! Did Ventz mention how many times you should turn the wheel over? Remember to adjust the tensioner every 10 000 kms.
Regards Marius

Hi Marius,
I remember him saying a couple (I might be wrong) so I did 2-3 full turns on the wheel. I saw on Baxters site that they mention a gentle tap on the cap, so I gave it two firm taps as in Africa the tap of a hammer seem to do wonders. ;D

Hi Jaco I use a spanner on the crankshaft nut when the plugs are out during the service to turn the motor over. I also read somewhere to tap the cap a couple of times. I may need to turn over the motor in future with the wheel as the A/C compressor now limits the space for a spanner.

I took her for a spin and she still seem to be very happy. And so am I. ;D

Hi Jaco, Please me know when you will be in Paarl. Would be a Pleasure to meet you in Person. Looks like the Pearlites (Paarliete) is all over the show.
Kind regards Stephen

Stephen, we (Paarliete) are all about. I'll drop you a line when I'm down there. I'm having Bulls/Stormers in mind for June or July on Newlands. Stormers!!!
Spikes, It is very good news indeed. I have one worrying thing though. The "locals" are checking her out and asking questions. On the flip side though, I see a market. Me thinks that if we can get some of these "dead" beasts on the road again for a fair price it will be gulped up like cakes. Ponder-ponder...I heard the petrol attendants murmuring today: "Yo-yo-yo...4x4...small...strong...eish...where do you find this thing?!" In any case, I hope all have a good evening. ;D

Tomorrow is an off day for me and that means Lada Day. ;D After a week or so of duck weather and the parents visiting I could hardly do anything. Now just to find a sunny spot for this biting cold snap or to re-direct the Lada's heater.

tsk tsk I have just come in from replacing the adler arm bushes. Bad weather is no excuse for field service technicians ;-)
A fairly easy task after following Ronnie's advice of removing the battery and battery bracket.
