Hi Ventz
This tread is actually addressed at you, because I have a feeling that you might have some knowledge regarding the history of my Lada.
I bought my Lada 5 years ago, at a car dealer in Durban.
I do not have any detail regarding my Lada's history, except that I bought it with a NMR (Mooi River) number plate - I can't remember the exact numbers on the plate.
My Lada is white 2000 model with carb, and has been fitted with white 8 spoke "Trailduster" rims with 205 tyres - before I bought the car.
I will send you a PM regarding the VIN number.
I will appreciate any information regarding my Lada -should you do have any details.
Regards
Danie

Hi Danie,
Sorry for the very long message to you without any particular details regarding your Lada. I was thinking you are interesting in VIN numbers as general. Anyway I believe it wasn't boring at all.
The reason is that I read your PM two days ago and I read the other your letter above just now.
Yes, I've got a big file of repairs for this car. I'm sorry to tell you that your Lada was one of the most abused vehicles in my practice. Is it first or second or third in the abuse classification I can't say but is definitely on the podium.
The owner was Crime Quit Security in Kamberg. They used it to chase criminals in farm areas in their region. Well, they chase only a day because the next day the car was ruined. The days and weeks later I worked to recover it. And again, and again - same endless story. Later I experienced big difficulties with their payments. They always wanted to get the car in advance and to pay sometimes (eventually) later which is against the rules in the entire motor business. Finally I had to lock the car in my garage and wait for sheriff's auction or to strip it for parts to recover my expenses. Soon after, their business collapsed and Ballid Security inherited their assets. The last payment was sorted out (~R11400 - quite a big amount for year 2003).
After that I've never seen it again and I'm happy the car survived after such a cruel vandalism.
It wasn't with traildusters, always been with standard 16" tyres.
As new it was modified and registered as "Panel van" (to claim the VAT back) and later in their request I fit rear windows, seat, safety belts, side trims, parcel shelf, etc,.. to be a passenger car again. Check your logbook, may be it's still registered as Panel van.

Hi Ventz Thanks for your reply - I must admit , I am a bit shell shocked ..........and yes, believe it or not - I always believed my Lada was owned by an owner who cared a lot about the car ;D When I bought my Lada at the car dealer, it was in very good condition. I always believed that they bought the car at an auction, because the words "Lot Nr " (17 as far as I remember) has been painted on the windscreen, as well as under the bonnet. With your information in mind, I have good reason to believe that the local car dealer probably bought the Lada for next to nothing at Crime Quit Security's auction, and then did an excellent job in rebuilding the car for re-selling purposes. The car dealer wanted R35 000 for the car, but I offered them R30 000, which has been accepted. Till this day I never regretted buying the Lada, and I actually find it hard to believe that it had been abused to such an extend. Second thoughts: Do you have any knowledge about previous body damage to Crime Quit Security's car ? Maybe I could verify by looking for body/ chassis damage that Crime Quit Security indeed owned my Lada before ? While I am writing this, I started wondering whether Crime Quit Security's Lada has not been scrapped, and the VIN Nr. etc has been used to rebuilt my Lada I repeat, I do find it very hard to believe that my Lada has ever been abused before. Or maybe Crime Quit Security's Lada has been involved in another crime incident, and now I am involved as well Regards Danie P.S. I bought the car without any log book. Jan Pretorius once replaced wheel bearings on my Lada and informed me that the car has been involved in a huge accident before. To this day I couldn't find ANY trace of an accident....

Well, I don't think somebody can do such a big effort to transfer registration and VIN from one Lada to another one. Too much work for a couple of thousand rand sales profit.
The engine number in my file is 21213-5905754 The mileage on the last invoice - 96541 km
Damages which I remember and could be visible: Front diff with broken studs - check the studs LHS, see if the rear one looks different Left door was bent - check for panel beater work and additional paintwork, esp. behind the door trim.

Hi Ventz
Thanks - I will have a good look at the door and diff tomorrow.
I have bought the Lada during November 2005, at that stage the km. reading was just over 97 000 .
Which means the car has probably not been used for at least two years.
Thanks for the info.
Regards
Danie

Wow Danie... Your Lada might as well be called "the Batman". Taking abuse fighting crime... cool.

Mine has a couple. Has only done 30 000km in last seven years, but was severely abused. Owner before that spend alot of money on the car. Its sad how people ruin a car.

Hi Vincent
I see even the younger members of LOCSA do not have good memories ;D. Ventz was going overseas for I think 8 weeks, and I am not sure when he will be due back.
