Hi guys
After years of dreaming and wishing I finally have a lada. Not in great condition but its fine. Will fix everything over time. Few thing that I know is wrong, wrong tires at the back (30inch), jumps out of 3rd gear, passenger window winder mechanism broken. rear diff pinion oil seal leaking, tc front seal leaking, speedo cable broken, gearbox sump leaking, bonnet cable broken, tappet cover leaking, some of the electrics not working and lastly interior needs attention.
Ronnie can you maybe tell me how you made a new top panel for the dash?
The rear tires are catching the body so they are badly cut and very off balance. Feels very unstable. I still have to drive it 20km home tomorrow. I removed the rear propshaft to prevent the tc from breaking because of the difference in wheel sizes. What wheels will fit? A set of 5 pro, whites will set me back R2500. Will rather buy mags then and use the 3 correct steel rims I have as a spare.
Will post pics tomorrow or sunday.
Charles
P.s Does anybody want to buy a 16inch spare still with the original 175/16 tire on?

Hi Charles
Well done. May the journey begin. Cant wait to see it.
Let me know if you need help with resources. My dad is also close by, between J'bay and Kareedouw. He did lots of work on my Lada and is supposed to be retired.
You should get yourself a copy of the Lada maintenance manual, but the best manual is still this forum.
What did you get 1600 or 1700?
Regards Hein

Thank you guys.
It is a 1700 carb. Does anyone know if any other steering wheel fits or does somebody have a 1700 steering wheel for me. Mine has a ugly sport wheel on.

Hi Charles Congratulations on taking delivery of your new toy . I am sure you will have plenty of enjoyment out of it. You should keep the original spare as it is the only one that fits under the bonnet . I will tell you later tonight how I made the top. It is very simple, but you must remove the complete dash to do it. Ronnie

Hi Charles
I would imagine Fiat 124 / 128 may fit. The hub of the sports wheel should be able to take any of the sport wheels available, though you may battle to get one with a large enough diameter. The smaller ones will require muscle power to turn the wheels ;D

Hi Ronnie
Thank you for the advice. I wonder if a fiat palio wheel will fit. I have access to a couple of wheels at work so will try as the time passes. I hate the feeling of those sport wheels.

Hi Charles Congratulations!!! I'm sure you are going to have lots of fun with the Niva. I would be interested in the spare - provided it is fairly new and you don't want and arm and a leg for it. Problem is distance though Regards Marius

Hi Marius
Yes distance is a problem. The one rim on the car is also diffrent from the rest and Ari is intrested in that one, but again distance is the problem.
I will not be able to post pics this weekend. Not bringing it home. Leaving it at work for time being. here I have a big compressor and a hoist. So I will sort out the big things there first. Like brakes and oil leaks and wheels. Then take it home for the cosmetics. Will take photos monday.

What wheels will fit? A set of 5 pro, whites will set me back R2500. Charles Hi Charles I bought a spare rim (similar to the rims on my Lada) a while ago from Super Tyres in Pinetown. These 5 stud rims (8 spoke 15 x 7 ) are made in China, and currently sell for R471.00 - including VAT, at Super Tyres. I am thinking of buying four extra rims to fit some Pitbulls........: Regards Danie

Hi Charles
For the dashboard top go to General page 4 and click on Renovations. Then just scroll down to the "instructions". If you need any more information just ask.
