Hello All,
My apologies if there is an existing thread on this topic, I searched but couldn't find anything.
My Lada is sagging a bit on the driver side. It sags even when I'm not sitting in the driver seat so I don't think it's time for me to cut down on the pork crackling ;D
The front is also about an inch lower than the rear.
Where can I find replacement coil springs? I'd like to fit new coils and shocks on all fours.
When I get it back from the shop I want to park it on trestles and fit some grease nipples to the joints so it would be a good time to sort out the suspension too.
Thanks.

Hi Douw When we bought our Niva 10 years ago - I noticed the same thing. I was the told that most of them are like that Anyway they apparently "stretched" the coils a bit - but to this day there is some difference on the right hand side. I think it is about one cm. Regards Marius PS - sagging is quite normal in older cars that carries only the driver for most of the time.

Hi Douw
Swap the 2 front coils around so that the left one moves to the right side and visa-versa

Almost all Nivas are sagging on the RHS. Not only the old ones. In Y2000 we inspect more then 100 units new delivery. Same story. And we were argue for the reason. Anyway, remember that the car was designed like LHS steering wheel vehicle and driver's seat is at the left. I don't remember in Europe such a skew hind end. Could be fixed with stretching the rear right coil or install a little longer or harder one, but this will not change the performance of the car.

Hi Ventz
Thanks for the response - you don't think that sagging like that could add to vibration?

Marius, Ari, Ventz,
Thank you for your speedy responses. Makes sense what Ventz says about being designed to be LHD. I'll try rotating coils to see what effect it has.
Thanks again guys.

Hi Douw
I see you are in Jhb. Way back in 1997 I had heavier springs made by Van Zyl`s spring works in Jhb, for a Lada at reasonable cost. you could try there and Ventz for a price.Van Zyl`s is underneath the M2 high wayas it passes the south of the city.

Hi All
Just read the posts re difference heights. I have measured mine and the measurements to the wheel arches is as follows. both front 795mm both back 815mm. The Lada is unladen.

Hi Guys (btw Ari this continuous from your reply last night, didn't want to high-jack diff lock thread).
Measured hight to the wheel arches (top center) this morning. LB: 810mm, RB: 800mm LF: 780mm, RF: 770mm The constant 10mm difference makes me wonder if surface was level, will check somewhere else too.
This doesn't seem too far off from Ronnie's, as far as I remember he also has 15" rims, but without the plastic wheel arch trim which could explain the extra 10-15mm.
Thoughts?

My one rear coil is sagged, how wrong would it be to put a spacer with it to level the back out? Charles

Hi Charles
I would think it would work. Don`t know if the springs would then have a different 'Strength"

Hi Ronnie
I don't think so. As long as it stands level.
