Hi everyone, I have finally got my Lada this weekend(2000 non sidekick), White with about 89000 km. It has a little bit of work but nothing serious. The scary thing is that I am so thrilled to start working on my car. There goes my budget I am looking forward to meeting like minded enthusiasts although I am very new to Lada's aswell as 4x4. Have an awesome day! Juran

You see.....this is exactly why I love Lada's and their owners!!! Thanks for the super warm welcome everyone...!! I took my little beast to Lada Centurion today....and NO hesitation in making me feel welcome from her side!!! She gave me quite a shock today...and the amount of stuff I need to fix...WOW!!!! I will really try and fix most of the stuff in future....!! But for now I just want to get her as mechanically sound as possible!!! She looked like she was in Excellent condition....! But the body is tip top, aswell as the interior and engine bay....just some work needed on the shafts, bearings, brakes, stabaliser bar etc! I have so many questions...but I will post in the technical forum! Cant wait to get her back on wednesday!! PS. Is there anyone who could maybe supply me with some second hand 175/80/16 tyres? Where could I buy tyres with about 50 - 60% tread left? As I said, she gave me a warm welcome and my budget was thrashed. She has two dofferent sets of tyres om back and front and I do not think that this is good at all...? Anyway, once again....thank you all so much for the warm welcome!! Have a great evening!!! Juran

Hi Juran
The warm welcome will cost you plenty. There are plenty of the small jobs you can do yourself, even if you do not know how. Just ask and someone will be able to help you. Have you down loaded the repair manual?

Hi Juran
It will be interesting to know what they charge you for repairs, and whether they did work you did not ask for.
Please keep us posted.

Hi Juran That is to be expected...from Jan. Must say the brake pads is a steal - you got yourself quite a bargain there ;D ;D The exhaust thing is quite new to me - I remember when I asked him about fitting a straight he told me that would burn the jets Regards Marius

I just wonder why he charges an additional labour fee (R1500.00), while labour fees seem to be heavily incorporated on most of the the listed items already ? Regards Danie

Hi
Marius, what was intersting was that he said the exhaust was not stock and that I needed to replace it because it has 2 boxes and a catalitic converter which is not supposed to be there? Now on the manuals I downloaded it looks exactly the same....but I do not know what the stock exhausts look like....?!
Danie, I agree and do not know if the pads are included in the major service or not?
Anyway, I would like to do more things myself as I have the technical and logical knowledge to do so....!
How is the guy from Pietermaritzburg's prices?

Hi Juran If you have 2 boxes and the CC and it it looks like the pic below you are fine. Anything else might damage the jets. Regards Marius

Yup, that is exactly what it looks like, but I was told that it is not standard and needs to be replaced!

;D ;D ;D I think someone might be desperate. Look I am no expert on this but the standard exhaust setup is perfect. Obviously you can go to the experts and they will fix you up supa quick - but if the compression is not right you will burn the jets and some more. This is actually what Jan told me years ago If you can DIY you will save a fortune. Regards Marius

Hi Juran
Do your self a favor and go to service good or bad on page one of general. My wife bought me a rebuilt Lada from Centurion. It cost R60000 and was a rip off with shoddy work, and many items in his sales list not done. The only thing that looks good is the paint work and I have reservations there as well in regard to the preparation before spraying. I had a boot ripped on one side shaft I bought a boot gave it and the shaft in to the local specialist who replaced the boot. and greased it for R100. Do the work yourself

Hi Guys,
Thank you...! This was what I was afraid of! I will inspect the car thoroughly and ask for all the old parts just to make sure everything is replaced as stated on the quote! I will definately do things differently in future...this is bad though cause there aren't that many guys who work on them...!!
Maybe I must start my own shop!! HEHEHE!!!
Thanks once again for the warm welcome to the forum and all the help!!

Hi Juran
Looking at The charges I think Centurion are a rip off. I have had many cars in my lifetime and many non standard exhaust systems and I have NEVER had any problems. If the battery starts and runs the Lada what is the problem with the size?. As I said before keep you money in your pocket and do the repairs yourself. My first impression of Lada centurion was "it is a scrap yard"

Bhahahaha....no comment!
Thanks for the advice! The thing with the exhaust is that it looks exactly like the one on the pic that Marius uploaded! This means that it's standard. I was told that there never was a cc and only one silencer at the back!
Anyway....glad I did not change it!
Do you guys ever come together? I would like to meet some of you and I am very curious to see some of your Lada's (get some ideas)
Getting her back today or tommorow...so I will load some pics as soon as I have her back!

Hi Juran
To date we have had no get togethers as we are spread all over the country. I would think Gauteng will be able to organize some outings and I am sure our 2 new events committee members will be looking at this once they get settled in.

Hi Juran
I have just checked Baxter`s Temple of Niva and it recommends a 2 inch exhaust as being the best for the Niva but not to go any bigger than that.

Hi Juran
Did Jan change the Gearbox, Transfer Box, and Diff oils ? If not I would advice you to change all oils immediately.

Danie.

Hi Juran.
Jan is rediculous with his prices and the workmanship of an inferior standard. The only thing Jan can repair properly is an gearbox and then still put the output seals in with sealer and do not use any sealer on the gearbox sump, and it leaks.
I got two silencers on my Lada and 50mm pipes and no complaints at all and my Lada got 208000km on. I've replaced the rear silencer and pipes a month ago.
Regards.

Hi All.
One of Jan's booboes again. A exhaust with too little back pressure does not burn jets, but burn valves as jets is inside the carby and not inside the combustion chaimber.
