Mike, if the Landy is standard with standard radial or cross ply tyres on, the Lada will smoke the Landy because of the limit slip diffs. but if the Landy is equipt with mud tyres, the landy will give you a go for your money. I used to drive a jeep cherokee sport turbo diesel and the wife gave me a very good challenge with the lada at Rust de Winter. The Jeep also had limit slip diffs, but the diesel were very under power with the Lada in off road conditions. The only advantage the Jeep had over the Ladawas that the Jeep had a solid diff in the front which give you more clearance over rocks and obsticals than the independant front diff of the Lada. The Landy also got a solid front diff, but does not count in mud, and the Landys also does not have diff locks. That is where the limit slip has an advantage over the Landy. Enjoy the outting and post some pictures. If I can find my pictures of Rust de Winter, I will post a picture of the wife with the Lada recovering the Jeep after the transfer of the Jeep went and got stuck in serious off road terrain where low range were required to came out. That was the laugh of that weekend and I still hear it today.
Regards.
Hercules.

I would love to send the pic of your Lada, towing the Jeep to my son in law . ;D
He owned a diesel Jeep (I think without a turbo - not sure) but he spent about R55 000 in less than two years, on gearbox / drivetrain problems, before he got rid of the thing............

Danie

Nice pics Mike. What bearings did you use on the water pump ? Regards Danie well danie i got it actually off another lada that was running fine, as mine sounded like a coffee grinder. Also regreased the nipple and lubricated the shaft with gtx2 greas working like a charm.
