Hi everyone, my name's Mark and I found this site after doing a search for wheel bearings for my Lada and what a find By the way I'm from Pmb, Kzn. I've had my baby for 3 years now, she's a 1994 ? 1600 and when I got her she was a semi-non runner. I've done quite a lot of work on her and have been a regular at scrap yards and now have a pretty hybrid Lada. I found a smashed BMW 745i and bought the front elecronic leather seats - what a mission to put in but yoh, they are spectacular now! My reasoning was, she ain't fast so make the journey comfy ! I've done the top end, she was idling like a sick bus and I found a third of an exhaust valve missing so aimed at a quick fix, but as we all know it never quite works like that so ended up replacing all the valves bought from Centurian, guides came from a Mazda drifter and were machined to fit, and VW golf stem-seals finished it off. I'm in the process of changing wheel bearings, details which I found on this site, thanx to the guys who did that work. I'm also needing to change the windscreen wiper motor, gears stripped internaly so she sticks ... I'll probably go hybrid and put in a Nissan 1 tonner unit - similar mounting and strong as an ox. I'm also looking t changing the steerin wheel, it's just too skinny for me - I'm fond of the Toyota Fortuna wheel and will figure out some way of grafting it on. I'll post some pictures later

Hi Mark
Welcome on board, nice to have more owners from KZN here.
The mods on your Lada sounds quite interesting - A couple of pics would be very welcome.
If you kept record about part numbers, (Mazda valve guides, and VW stem seals) as well as machining cost, please let us know. It would be interesting to know what the total cost of a rebuilt like this would be.
Regards
Danie

By the way Mark, do you perhaps know whether the Russian Lada mechanic (Ventz - I forgot his surname) still finds himself in 'Maritzburg ?
If you do have Ventz's contact details, or any applicable info, please let us know.
Regards
Danie

Heya Danie, yes indeed as far as I know he is still in Pmb - what an experience visiting him, he had Lada's in every open spot of his yard! I have his number if you are interested.

Hi Mark
Thanks for the good news - and yes, full contact details will be highly appreciated !
As far as I know Ventz was well known, and popular amoungst Locsa circles a couple of years ago - so his name will surely be listed as "very capable Lada mechanic" at this Forum !
Do you perhaps know what his surname is ?
Regards
Danie

Welcome Mark! Your hybrid parts sounds promising. How did you fit the BMW runners for the seats? They are longer than the Lada. I need to move the drivers seat back in mine If you have not picked up the thread to Baxter's site in the UK try this ladaniva.co.uk/baxter/resources/newbies.htmRegards Spikes
