Hi Spikes Thanks for the link - I am thinking of changing to another Insurance Company as well. The monthly premium on my 2006 Ford Focus at (Dial Direct) is R736 per month - an absolute rip off ! Apparently only 35% of all cars on our roads are covered by insurance, which has an enormous impact on insurance premiums. The Insurance Companies know very well that there is a 65% chance that they will have to foot the bill in case of any accident............so the premiums that we pay are loaded heavily to cover this additional risk ! So indirectly, we are paying an additional premium on behalf of the idiots in our country who do not have any insurance at all.. Apparently the government started thinking of implementing a compulsory vehicle insurance on all registered vehicles..........but this might take years to be implemented......... Regards Danie

Hi Danie and Spikes I have both vehicles insured with Zurich Insurance. Both are fully comprehensive. The Lada is insured for R60000 at R277.61 a month and the Peugeot R73600 at R304.29.We did comparisons about a month ago and could not come close to what we are paying. I would not be comfortable with balance of third party fire and theft. The last accident I had I hit a car which came out of a complex without stopping. The driver had no license or insurance and i prefer the insurance company to have the problem of recovering the cost of the damages (If they can ). Danie your insurance on the Ford does sound expensive Regards Ronnie

Hi All
I want to mention the advantage of using an insurance broker. When our company had all computers air con units etc burnt out due to the Municipality loosing the neutral on our supply and this in turn sends 380volts through the building. The insurance co would not accept liability as it was not caused by lightning. The broker then turned on our behalf and went after the Municipality. The end result after about 8 months fighting was he obtained a pay out from the Municipal insurance of close to R80000. If we did not have a broker we would have had to fight them ourselves, no doubt with the assistance of a costly lawyer.
Ronnie
PS The broker will also adjust the insured values on a yearly basis if it is required

Ronnie I am glad you are happy with your service.
Maybe I should not make this comment here - and it is not my aim to put anyone off any kind of insurance, but I must say I am not a fan of this whole short term insurance business.
Just some recent examples >> Farmers are supposed to get a better deal than most city dwellers but anyway a couple of months ago we lost our immersion pump due to Eishkom issues. If you have insurance it will cost your insurance up to R6000 to replace the pump. If you are not insured it will cost you R2000.
Someone reversed into the 1400 bakkie - same story >> if you are insured R4000 for the insurer and you will have to pay R1500. If not R2000.

Hi Marius
I think we all think the same of short term insurance, unfortunately it is very important to have it. In the late 90`s we got hit on the plot by a TORNADO. the damage to one of the houses the garage and the car ports was in excess of R80000. That is when you are glad you are insured. I will not even reduce my insurance to balance of third party fire and theft, to save money. If you have an accident you could end up owning nothing but a wreck
