Does anyone over there happen to know the valve lift on a 1600? The measurement of how much the valves lift off their seats during normal operation. Maybe someone has an indepth manual or even measured the lift at some stage.

Hi Bobby
I stand to be corrected, but I think most of us here do have very little knowledge about the 1600's.

Danie

Danie I believe there is negligable differences between 1600 and 1700 heads and cams so I think the lifts will be the same. I have manuals but none that are juicey enough to have this data in so I releying on someone with "special" manuals or someone whom has measured the lifts.

Bobby,
I got a 1700 and did measure the valve travel when I redo the head. My valve travel were 9.1mm and according to the agents the travel must be 8.4mm,which means my cam were modified, the springs bottom out on 9.4mm when hot.
Hope this can help you.
Regards.
Hercules.

Thank you very much Hercules, that is exactly what I was after! Interesting about your cam, could you tell any difference or did you only drive it in the 9.1 state?

Hi Bobby
You should be able to calculate it using maths and geometry if need be.

Hi Bobby.
I bought the Lada with the modified can but never new the cam were modified. I only found out when I redo the head and notice that the loabs are fairly sharp and the back were grind away nearly flat with the cam. When I bought the Lada I notice it were very nippy on low revs and accelerate very well. So I were fairly impress with the vehicle but also noticed it is not to fair on petrol as the consumption stays around 8.8-9km/l.
When I started to service other Lada's, I notice the difference in performance on the other Lada's as well as the fuel consumption. I replaced the rear halve of the exhaust three weeks ago and got the fuel consumption back to 10.1km/l. The new exhaust is much quieter than the old exhaust and also got more back pressure.
The Lada now is even more nippy and the engine run much smoother than before.
So yea, the cam is definitely make a difference and the greater back pressure is also a plus. The temp did rise a bid but is more stable in heavy traffic and it looks like the Lada is more happy.
Regards.

Thanks again, I was asking because I have a spare head but not a spare cam and cam box so I couldnt measure on that head and my Niva is still together.
