Hi, You can get rebuild kits for the original carb. I'm sure this will be cheaper than a new carb, unless yours is very badly worn?

Hi Neil There is no standard roof rack available, if you pm ladanivabelgium and ask fora set of plans to make one he will email them to you. Generic seat belts can be bought at a auto spares shop. Not sure about a rear seat, try the Lada for sale section for anyone stripping a lada for spares and selling the parts, same with a Solex carb. You could also try Ventz or ladaworld for the seat belts and carb or carb repair kit, their details are in the spare parts suppliers thread. Tjeers Steve

Hey
The reason I'm asking for solex carburator is because my ladas got a weber in but when I drive offroad and the descent is 35 to 45 degrees my lada dies because it floods heavilly and then struggles to start again and I'm not sure but I think my lada should have more power in high range when I drive highway and there's a bit of a hill then I have to gear down because it doesn't want to keep speed or is it like that?
Thanks

The behaviour on the freeway sounds normal. Its a bit underpowered so it wont hold 120 uphill, especially in 5th.

Hi Neil, I assume that you do have a Weber on your Niva 1700 cc? If so, just get rid of it, it will drive you mad. I suggest you investigate fitting fuel injection to your Niva. The standard single throttle body fuel injector fitted to the 1700 cc Niva is from Bosch and was fitted to the early Opels in South Africa. There are many Opel suppliers of second hand spares in South Africa. You will obviously need quite a few other goodies too but all should be available here in South Africa or from Pavel. I suggest you speak to reputable engine convertors like Steves Auto Clinic to do the conversion (say upfront that you may supply some of the spares). If you get stuck contact me and I will give you contact details of guys that know fuel injection conversions from years of experience. It may be cheaper than you think.
Please note that the brand of carburetor is not important; it is the design that matters. There are not many mechanics nowadays that can fit and tune a carburetor, let alone spec the right one. If you need contact details of a company that specialised in carburetors twenty years ago and still do, I will gladly pass on this information.
I strongly suggest you have a pressure test done on your cooling system by reputable companies like Silverton Radiators. Depending on where you stay, I suggest you get your vehicle to a guy like Ventz to go through your Niva and fix and advise you on the maintenance. It may be extra money well spent, because you are not experienced in maintenance and repairs and may easily be ripped off. Believe me there are Niva rip off artists around applenty.
Check that the front diff is well secured/bolted down.
Regards,
Fanus
