Recently the steering has been getting progressively heavier, so yesterday I had her front wheels off to try and locate the problem. What I found is that when the steering is turned, it shudders and doesn't turn smoothly from side to side.
I suspect that one or more of the tie rod ends has gone dry and is causing this. I'm planning on fitting some grease nipples to the tie rod ends to see if that helps, but wanted to see if anyone else had experienced this before and what the cause was.
Thanks

Initially you can put oil with a syringe, and check the steering drive arm. Also you can fit grease nipple on the steering drive arm. If you have a steering drive arm with bearings it is easy, you must remove the bung (screw) which has on the frame to fit in the nipple.

Hi jan, Yes that's the fist thing I checked. It only took a little oil before it was full.
Bobby I'm hoping it solves my problem as I'm not keen on replacing all the tie rod ends.

heavy steering is in most cases caused by worn/stuck ball joints

Hi Spikes
Thanks, but I think it's more than just the tires, because the steering is now heavier than it was.

Thanks Spikes I will check the oil level in the box and service the ball joints over the weekend. Is universal grease ok to use on the balljoints?
Thanks for your help Spikes Dheer

Sounds stupid but a front tyre could just have a slow puncture and be below 1.2 bar, and wouldn't be that noticable by visual inspection.

Thanks for your help Spikes Dheer Hi Dheer., Tacky chassis grease with molybdenum sulphide would be better I think. Vincent made recommendations as well. Pleasure to help. Spikes

Hi guys, I have a different problem with my steering. There is a lot of play on my steering before it 'takes'.

Loose adjustment nut on the top of the steering box, remove nut and lockwasher, tighten bolt until play is correct, then replace washer and nut.
