Hi, my name is Aderito Mazive from maputo, Mozambique. some may know me as a member of the locsa yahoo group. after having almost "rebuilt" a niva (paint, etc etc mostly) it was stolen and all passion was gone due to having to "grow up".
recently i got my hands on a niva shell that was working but is now in a bad state due to me letting it rot. (i had other grown up worries) im now seriously considering purchasing 2 more carcasses so i can make at least one niva out of them. is this a good idea? seeing that i can get two for around R3000. both are at a scrapyard and the owner is an ex niva driver who said he could point me to a few brand new spares and some leftovers from the time we were a socialist republic and had plenty of this toys running around.
i hope i can count on u to steer me on the right direction when i start rebuilding him.
i dont want to just rebuild it, i wanna make it special. different everything i can get. [had lamps. custom dashboard. different engine, banging sound system, wide body kit (later)] cheers

Hallo Aderito
Nice to see someone from Moz as a member - welcome! I'm sure that you will get all the help that you need on this forum and the many others throughout the world.
Best of luck with your rebuild. Are there lots of second hand parts available from scrapyards in your country?
Regards Marius

Hi
Sounds like you are going to have some fun building your niva. About buying the 2 carcases it should be ok depending on their condition and what parts are still on them.

not that many scrap yards available here and most that exist are dealing with japanese import car spares. so far i have only found 3 guys that have some spare parts, old and new. and one of them is a lada mechanic, the only i know of. he only works with lada vehicles. i gave him the task of rebuilding an engine and will let you know how much he charges once he removes the engine and checks it.

That is very interesting news Aderito - perhaps your mechanic can supply parts for us in South Africa? We have two suppliers here but they are very expensive - so perhaps if your guy can supply at reasonable prices he could be in good business Let us know what he thinks.

Hi Aderito
Welcome to the forum -really nice to have a member from Moz at the forum.
I am sure some of us are looking forward to a Lada group visit to Moz. in future, and it will be wonderful if you could give us more information about Moz in general.
In which part of Moz. do you find yourself ?
The two carcasses for R3000 make me think that parts might be cheaper in Moz than in SA. More information about the availability of parts in Moz will be very welcome.
Good luck with the rebuild - please keep us posted about any progress.
Regards
Danie

in what parts are you mostly interessted? tuesday m visiting him and will let you know whats availlable. im also contacting an army buddy to check what they still have as ladas were firstly imported for the army and police.
im in maputo and the mechanic is also in maputo.
some parts should be cheaper here for you guys as our currency is sinking when compared to the rand and dollar.
by the way, when i checked the carcasses one was complete (minus starter and water pump) and the other (left hand drive) was allegedely complete but the engine was dismantled and spread inside the cabin. but at R3k for bothi find it a good deal (although the fiance disagrees...)

Hi Arderito
ANY original parts would do nicely especially parts like the waterpump, timing chain and shoe, brake disks, master cylinders (clutch & brakes) etc.
Even tyres that fit the 16" rims would do nicely thanks!
