Hi all Martin from Richards Bay. Bought my 2nd Lada 2 weeks ago. (First one was found by my children and eventually found a new owner in JHB. 2002 Sidekick. Currently: '99 Sidekick with some kind of racing gearbox (to up the torque, but lowers the speed considerably) Able to climb almost any mountain, but is of no use on the open road. Busy with a deal to buy a gearbox which I will have fitted to original specs. I'm 63, not in the mood for rough terrain, use it for access to secluded fishing spots. Many thanks for a forum like this, much appreciated.

Hi Martin
Welcome to the Forum. I have not heard of a special gearbox but I do know of a low ratio transfer case which allows for very low speeds in I think both low and high ratio.

Welcome Martin,
Hope you get your gearbox sorted out. More information on the special gearbox would be interesting.

Welcome Martin. Hope you will have as much joy out of your Lada as our family have. It also took us to some nice fishing holes and some nice Wingshooting fields.

Hello Martin! Here a video with normal transfer (white) case and modified (green), both driving in first gear with idle gas: klickOnly reduction gets changed, all stzreet gear stay the same! Here you can order: Lada World- Denmarkalso here: Protrack- GreeceAlso in Germany is aproducer for modified t- case with perfect quality, but expensive, about 1000€ :-( Soon Gabor (Hungary) also will offer a modified t- case. My Niva will be testperson for it :-) Gabors t- case will cost little less, aproximate about 500€ greets Jakob

Hi all, thanks for the welcome. More info on the gearbox: According to the previous owner, it is a "racing" gearbox used for off road racing where top speed is not an issue but speed bursts are needed. It accelerates very fast and has tremendous power, but no top speed. I managed to change to a 5sp gearbox but the rpm is still too high, about 3500@100kph.I don't know if the final drive was also changed. What is the standard diff ratio and how can I determine what mine is currently?

standard ratio is 3.9, sounds like you have 4.3 diffs in
