The fuel and temp gauges on my Lada only works when they want to... Think my bushwhacker's slightly possessed.. And even when I fill up on fuel, petrol gauge (when it "works") only goes up just passed the half-way mark Which keeps me in constant "i-wonder-if-i'm-gonna-get-stuck-without-fuel" mode. The fuel gauge especially goes up and down all the time whilst driving (which tells me that there might be loose wire or something), but hubby can't find the culprit (previous owner made a point of stuffing up the wiring!)... So, any takers on this one?

Hi
Check for loose earth connection, I think it is behind the dash somewhere on the firewall, alternatively, remove and replace the fuses 1 by 1, ensuring they are tight fits and clean. Fuses are above the front passengers footspace.
Yor fuel guage will go up and down while driving and more spesifically as you turn corners, up when turning right and down when turnng left, just the way they are made.
To be on the safe side, I always carry 5l of fuel with me.
Tjeers
Steve

Hi Steve, Crikey, so it's not only my Lada that does that? But it does that while I'm on the "straight and narrow" as well...? Will go through fuses etc again, hubby fixed the inside light on the passenger side as well, lamp etc broken, wires were sticking out and touching each other, shorted a few things, but is sorted now (before fixing it, my central locking and hooter wouldn't work, but after "patching up" the open wires, it works!) But thanks Steve, always helpful

The fuel gauge sensor in the fuel tank is very sensitive causing the fluctuation of the needle BUT if the fuel low light stays on your are close to running out, Ronnie calibrated his gauge and wrote about it. There is also a write-up here on the Ladanivabelguim website; forum.ladanivabelgium.be/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=5459. A lot gets lost in googles's translation. Important: If you want to remove the instrument cluster first disconnect the battery
