Hello everyone I live in Uitenhage, near PE, in the Eastern Cape. I have a Lada that is currently doing a wonderful garden ornament impersonation. Where in the eastern cape would I go to find parts and I also need someone to look at the engine and tell me whats wrong.

Welcome Jacky The best people in the EC region to assist are Charles and Ari. Charles I know is just itching to get his hands on a Niva after he sold his recently. Spares are generally available from Ventz in Pietermaritzburg or Pavel in the Ukraine. Ventz's details are in the spare parts suppliers thread and Pavel's web site is www.ladapower.com, he is totally trustworthy and reliable. Tjeers Steve

hi all
From what I understand I definitely need a new battery because we have to jump start the Lada from my car. Look the thing goes, trust me, it goes, when we did eventually get it going and hubby was that ticked, because it had died about 6 times from where we had the fuel effort thingy fixed, which was about 8km from where we live, he went like a bat out of hell and i could not keep up with him, that is when we realised when you turn on the head lights the Lada dies. I don't know if its the engine or the selecting of the 4x4 but it rattles and makes funny noises. As you can tell I am no mechanic, well not yet anyway. When I phoned Chris Swales Motors and asked for "local" suppliers and mechanics, they gave me a name of a gentleman who also owns lada's down this way, Dirk, he says he will pop by on Thursday and have a look. @ Ari, you are more than welcome to pop in have a look, and have a cuppa. The break on the road trip will do you the world of good. And I would appreciate the "superior intellect" and advice you can give. Also my spelling is terrible.

Send me your address in a PM and I'll make turn there.
Sounds like you have a good amount of issues to sort out.

My guess with the rattling is the UJ on the propshaft or the lock nut on the output shaft of the GB is loose

Warm welcome to the forum Jacky and it's great to see that someone from VW Country would like to fix a Russian garden ornament to drive around in - fantastic! Love that part of the world. Marius

Hi everyone
So Dirk came around and had a look, I defintely need a new battery, that's a given. Got given a guys name that is an autolec, yippeee, so hopefully by end of May the Lada should be electrically sound. Its going to be a very long pet project this due to finances but its going to be done.
