Hello Lada Enthusiasts, My name is Christiaan. I bought a Lada Niva 1.7 new in 2001 and love my Lada. I came upon this forum while searching for CV joints for my Lada. Mine is not so good anymore because the CV boot rubbers was "flenters". I found someone who will redo them cause I can't find new ones. (But will probably also courier some from Russia)
I had the privilege to twice go to Samara to lecture. From Samara we took the road to Tolyatti to lecture at night. I tried to visit the Lada Factory in Tolyatti but couldn't arrange it into our program. I did see some very interesting (and battered) Lada Niva's in Samara and Tolyatti. I liked the 5 door and was very impressed with the Chev Niva version.
The first time I went to Samara we drove around in a Lada "Kombi" type 4x4 version.
The biggest problem I had on my Lada was the 5 gear that broke and hit a hole in the casing.
At this stage the rust is attacking the body and I will have to spend some money to do a big respray overhaul. I will need to get some parts from Russia again.

Hi Christiaan.
Welcome to the Forum. If you take a sample of the CV boot to your local spares shop you will easily match it. If you search the spare parts thread you will even find the make and part numbers.

Warm welcome Christiaan I can only speak for myself but Traveling that part of the world would be a dream come true - fantastic! Glad to see the Kombi style 4x4 made it into production. I also like the 5 door version but apparently there are only 2 samples in SA and I believe they are not in good shape at all Feel free to post some pics of your trip and your very own Niva. Marius

Ronnie, thanks I did just that and got the boot rubbers. I'm not very machanical gifted and someone is helping me to fix the problem. He will remove the CV's again tomorrow and take them to CV master for a repair or refurb job. But I think I'm going to ask my friends in Samara to get me a price on a new set. I also need the hoses for the heater because there seems to be a leak.
Maruis, I will go through my photos and post some. Pity I didn't take a camera on my first trip but took a lot of pics on the second trip. Russia sure gives an opportunity for a lot of interesting stories and scary experiences. Sure wish to go again ...

Hi Christiaan Welcome to the forum. A good place to look for parts is www.ladapower.com, they are extremely reliable. If you look in the spare parts suppliers thread, you will find details of local suppliers. Hoping you get your CV's sorted soon Tjeers Steve

Hi Christiaan
If your CV`s have lasted 12 years even with damaged boots I would import new ones rather than trying to refurbish the old ones.

Hi Christiaan,
Welcome to the forum! Look at the website ihar provided. The club has built up a very strong relationship with Pavel. He has got the the export/import lines sorted out(from your own import experience, you will know all about that ;D )

Thank you very much for the link to Ladapower. I really appreciate it. I checked it out and are very impressed with the site and prices (except that the clutch on our Rand is slipping badly since yesterday).

After 12 years our Lada only has 170 000km on the clock. Only the right inner CV shows some wear. I will refurb that one at the moment but will definitely order a new set.

Hi Christiaan
Welcome to the forum, I also live in Witbank and often see your Russian Rage Rover at the same school where I drop my son off...I drive a dark green Lada, but do not use it as often as you use yours. Maybe we need to get the Ladas together sometime...

Hey, a Witbank social, I like that idea.
Maybe we shoud organise the next Gauteng social in Witbank.
But in the mean time, please keep us informed if you are getting together, maybe a few people from Gauteng will join, but you are welcome to join us on the 21st for our next social.
