Thought its time to post all the details. The complete mechanism The mechanism has to be cut at the bottom so it will sit flat in the door. Before: After: Plate in the door just below the window stopper has to be cut to make space for the mechanism. Hole in door there the centre part goes through filed bigger so the mechanism can go through and new holes made for it to bolt to the door. One hole was not perfect that's why its oval. Plate that's attached to the window was cut. Hole on the floor to bolt the mechanism to the floor. Again one hole was drilled in the wrong place. Measure twice drill once. Mechanism bolted to the floor. The mechanism has a mounting point in the centre to make it more stable. I used a thin piece of metal that came with a central locking kit. Mechanism cant go high enough to close the window fully so i used a piece of plate bar to space it. Top is the window bottom is the mechanism. I just had to grind the centre part down so so my original handle would fit. All in all it works great. Mechanism cost me R120. Golf MK1 Please excuse that everything isn't perfect like I usually do. This was done late at night in the winter and just as a temp fit. Then when it worked so well I just left it as is. Still planning on doing the rh side. Charles

Charles was saying the "larger" golf window winder would work for the large window. The vertical channels are pretty solid on the NIVA so it should hold the larger window in place? Perhaps Charles will be along later with more detail.
Did you get a speedo cable?

My Niva has the small windows. The mechanism is a tight fit and you have to bent it a bit. The golf 2 mechanisms are different from the golf 1 ones.

right solution found..... use the rear window mechanism for the big window lada the 1 on the left is the front window mech (golf 1) the second 1 is the standard rear mech (golf 1) the one on the right is the rear mech after some bending, follow charles' instructions on the fitting, to get the window rising straight you have to move the section that clamps on to the windows around 10mm backwards

Hi Charles and Sparky
I hope the golf one is easier than the Toyota one to fit as the Toyota one is a nightmare as far as I am concerned.

There is a window winder from italy available. In Slowenia all Niva up from 2002 got it as new car. I got one used last year, i am very happy with it. Very good quality, same parts are also used for Mercedes and Fiat. Installing is very easy. just put out old one. Than refix this metal on downside of the glass. Insert new winder and fix the window. installation- pdfManufaktor homepageIt is the modell 31064. greets Jakob
