Hello everyone, I have a Fiat question. This is a photo of my 1880 block you can see a round cast lug on the oil gallery, this lug is stopping me from putting the starter on. I have looked at every Fiat photo and manual I can find and none have this round lug. I will need to gring off about 3mm so the starter will find and although Im sure there is a lot of metal before the oil gallery Im hopeing someone may have more of an idea than me before I grind.

That round lug might just be hollow on the inside to be tapped for a sender.
There are 2 ways of finding out........

I find the lack of ant photos with it on interesting. It has a few Fiat forums stumped too.

I ground a few mm of the round lug, lada starter wouldnt fit without grinding a few mm off the block around the welch plugs, out came the fiat starter I ground bits and pieces off that till it fitted in only to find out the holes in the gearbox didnt line up, out came the lada starter again this time I ground metal off around the bottom bolt hole, a bit more off the round lug and even some off the square lug and the bit I am really uncomfortable with I ground a few mm off the inside edge of the solnoid. I now have 1/2 a mm clearance between the block and the solnoid. Sussed

It will Ari I am sure of that, a new starter which is allot smaller the the old type is abit out of my price range but that is where I will be going eventually
