Hi Freek here. I bought a Lada Niva 1.7 2001 model in November 2003, with 21000 km on the clock in Gauteng. Installed electronic rust protection and drove it to Fynbosstrand - about 40km from Mosselbay. Used it as holiday vehicle down there for 7 years. Then needed to move it back to Pretoria before I loose the undercarriage to rust. Redone undercarriage with rust-proving. In the 9 years had very little problems, but must say @ 32 000km on the clock it is still new. Are however battling with excessive fuel consumption (>15l/100km). Were lucky to find Nankang FT7 175/80 R16 tyres from Tyretraders (www.tyretraders.co.za) last week. For those in need there is still stock left. Already stumbled accross the LOCSA site in 2004, but never thought about becoming a member. When I finally found the Nankang tyres, had a reason to share my joy, just to find out that LOCSA members were already privvy to this info.

Hi Freek.
Welcome to the forum. Your Niva is still brand new. Is your Niva carb or fuel injected? I would sugest you check all the vacuum likes and set the tappets. 0.15 all, cold. Also check that the air filter is clean.
Marius was the one who get hold of the Nankangs for us.

Welcome to the forum Freek Nice to see you are so excited about the Nankangs - and it is good to know that they are available from other suppliers as well. Regards Marius

When last was the co set on it? If its been running at the coast the whole time and now up there you would need to have it set.

Hi Freek, and welcome. It would seem that if the coastal rust doesn't get you.....then the Highveld altitude will...to say nothing of the hail ! Again, welcome and regards. Keith and CERATOTH
