Hi, I'm a huge Lada fan, even after my first Lada Niva was a mechanical disaster and broke down fairly frequently, (but that was due to the fact that the previous owner was a wanna-be mechanic that thought that because toyota parts didnt fit properly , he would just weld them on, so it was no fault of the cars ) That said, I am keen for a new Lada, and I know they stopped importing them some years back, do they still manufacture them in Russia, and if so, has anybody had any luck importing a new one?

Since February 1998 the import of LHD vehicles and any second hand cars are banned in South Africa.
Is there any other country in the world with such a law? I personally don't know despite I travel a lot.
Long life the local motor mafia.

I wish in SA we could also drive on the right as in the rest of the world. Wish they made it international law to drive on only 1 side of road, a little bit of information: "Today about 66.1% of the world's people live in right-hand traffic countries and 33.9% in left-hand traffic countries. About 72% of the world's total road distance carries traffic on the right, and 28% on the left." Read more: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right-_and_left-hand_traffic

It's a shame they don't bring in any new Nivas. I would have loved to get a 2012 Niva

If we get an order together for 500 (or was it 100) RHD Nivas, the factory will produce them, they still have the tooling for RHD. I am in for 2 probably.

We need about 50 more members before we can even contemplate that thought and then each one has to order at least one! ;D Would be bloody hell nice though! Marius

Nice dreams but it's time to wake up... Aussies, Kiwis, Brits, etc... - that joint venture doesn't helps...
$ 5 000 000 ( Five million US dollars ) - for the start.

Can't we just employ the Somali pirates or some one similiar to ''permanently relocate'' a batch of Niva's for us

That sounds like a plan but they would still all be LHD

While the pirates are "permanently relocate" the vehicles, they can go and permanently relocate the "tooling for RHD".

They didn't leave much space for ones feet did they. Annoyingly there is a small hole in the plastic just left of the clutch so it catches your shoe unless you have rather precise foot placement. Used to it now though.

My problem is how close the clutch and brake is. The fact that i constantly wear aussie work boots doesnt help either.
My throttle is a floor mounted pedal and that helps a lot.

I agree. about the clutch/brake closeness.. What were they thinking? Maybe it was just a case of too much Vodka.

I don't have particularly big feet but all my "driving shoes" have scuff marks on the left shoe.

Hi Guys. Managed to make a little more space for my size 10s after CERATOTH's bath last January. Took out the carpet, plastic liner and soundproofing and replaced it with Plascon's rubberised bootliner paint. This went on a treat, is standing up to the wear and tear very well (plus it is recoatable if needed) and I can't say that I've noticed any increase in noise or heat. I can still 'put foot', brake and declutch all at the same time if I turn my foot sideways :-) Passenger side has lots and lots of space plus a neat little footrest.....perhaps I should relocate to Belgium and buy a left hand drive ! Regards to all at LOCSA, Keith and CERATOTH.

A left hand drive Niva must be a pleasure to drive.

Everything is much easier on LHD Niva. Clutch and brake cylinders, pedals, gear lever, wires, starter, heater valve, steering column, steering box, .... The LHD Niva has bigger brake booster and bigger brake master cylinder with 4 exits, brakes are much better.

Have you guys tried warping the pedals to get more space? I was able to get a wider spread by bending the at the top and at the bottom so the clutch is 15mm to the left and the petrol 15mm to the right. No problem to drive with safety boots on. You'll be surprised how soft that steel is when you bend it sideways.

Hi Darryn
UK is OK treating us well. We have had no floods but snow twice. This has been the wettest year on record. Lets hope the next summer is good
