Hi, my name is Nico de vos. I joined with a new (Secondhand) Lada bought a few days ago. I am a millwright with a small hydraulic business in Alberton and I enjoy working on cars in my spare time. I am a keen fisherman (rock and shore) and goes to Namibia regularly. I know the Cape west coast like the palm of my hand as I have been crayfishing, quad biking and 4x4'ing there for the past 20 years. The Lada (by name of "brinjal" see the color) needed the coupling between the gearbox and transfer box, which I ordered from Chris Swale Motors in Pinetown (fantastic service fron Leonie). I am also replacing all the boot rubbers and cleaning and greasing all the joints and knucles on the prop shafts. Setting the timing chain and the steering column, draining and replacing all oils, and replacing most of the lights with the new led lights. New tyres and checking and grease wheel bearings and seals. Running boards and a roof rack is next on the line, then rod holders and a small winch on the nose. The paint work will be tackled in next year. If I missed anything, before leaving for Namibia in Dec, please tell me? Nico.

Welcome Nico. Just do a basic service as well, but I am pretty sure we dont have to tell you that, dont forget to tension your timing chain. A good "newbie guide" can be found on Baxters Niva Page - www.ladaniva.co.uk/baxter/NivaMainPage.htmTjeers Steve

Warm welcome Nico It looks like your Niva is in very capable hands and I am sure she will be like new when you are finished with her. The only (sound) advice I can give is that you must remember to drop a few crayfish in my postbox on your way back from Namibia ;D Enjoy! Marius

Hi Nico Welcome to the Forum. I also used to be continually in Namibia but I spent my time in the Caprivi. Lived in your part of the world in the 70`s, Leondale to be exact. I think it is a Location now. Ronnie
