I simply change ALL fluids annually, including brake/clutch fluid and coolant. When my Rego is due I change up a storm, which is in about 2 months.

Hi Ari Looking at those dimensions the K@nN filter should be a good fit in the Lada housing which the AG 380 is not. Just think you Lada had one at one time Ronnie

Hi All
I have been looking for a new cap for the clutch reservoir for a while as it is split in two. I have tried every cap I could get my hands on but none have ever fitted That is until today when I tried the cap off a bottle I think was sold as a cold drink bottle for the kids at school. A tiny hole in the centre and it is a perfect fit.

Hi Douw I notice you say your tail gate rattles. Don`t be like me and spend countless hours adjusting and it still rattles. . I discovered the other day that it is the width of the lock which is allowing it to rattle, no doubt due to wear over the years. You will see in the photo I have riveted on to the lock a piece of steel cut to the correct size. No more rattles Ronnie

Hi Ronnie
Thank you for that mod. I have troubles with hatch doors on Tiidas. Think that wil solve it. Some customars would probably complain though, but it is a great idea.

Hi Charles
For months now Freda would walk past the Lada and ask what are you doing? the answer- trying to stop this door from rattling. It never occurred to me it was moving slightly side ways. Now that it is not rattling I hear the passenger sun visor making a noise. At least it keeps me busy ;D

Hi Ronnie.
My Lada's rear door are silent but damn that passenger sun visor and rear seat back rest, make me mad. Will find something to stop that irritating rattles.

Ronnie, thank you kind sir. I tried to adjust mine but it was at max adjustment on the slots. I will definately do this mod, thanks. ;D ;D Ya, you get rid of one noise and you can hear another. I fitted a quieter silencer recently, now there are other "noises" bothering me. I think I'm just going to fit a MASIVE sound system... No more rattles to hear ;D
;D ;D Hercules, I have a few of those too. For instance, the driver seat has a squeek... I will find that squeek!! If it's the last thing I do, I will find it and terminate it! ;D
My Lada has been in the shop for 3 weeks now, can't wait to get it back...

Ha ha! That infernal back door! I riveted the lock down, and had to drill them out after the lock worked itself out which made the door sound like it was going to fall off. I'll put this mod on this weekend. My Lada has been at the gearbox guys for a week- going through withdrawal. My wife's Renault is just too... french.

While Corne asked a question about leaking Crankshaft oil seals under another thread, I started looking for a pic with comments which (I think) I have sent before ...........cant find it now. Anyway this is a pic which sows the Crankshaft oil seals - the rear (big) Crankshaft seal can be seen on the left, and the front seal can be seen on the right. The worn (removed) Russian seals can be seen at the bottom: Both seals on the pic are aftermarket parts - I bought the rear (big) seal at Bearing Man, and the front seal elsewhere - I hope to find more detail, which will be forwarded...... Bearing Man also carried stock of an aftermarket seal which would fit - but I was not happy with the heat rating - so I bought a better seal elsewhere. Regards Danie

Hi All Here is another simple inexpensive modification. There is only 2 switches which are lit so you can see them at night. If you are prepared to strip out the dash front, cut a slot the length of the switches carefully and mount 2 small panel lamps and holders with a suitable piece of very thin steel as a screen to stop stray light behind the panel. I have put a small piece of perspex edge on into the slot with hot melt glue to finish it off. You will get the idea from the photo. Also disconnect the wiring from the existing SW illumination and use this to feed your new lights Ronnie

Hi Duane
The rest is just as neat as I have spent a good bit of time on it. The plastic parts, if you clean them well and strip out all the switches etc can be sucessfully renovated with matt black spray paint which is very durable on plastic. I will try to take a photo of the complete dash tomorrow.

Hi Ronnie
Looks so clean. It is amazing how the interior is different from the 1600. Would love to get the same steering wheel as on the 1700.
I will get the same angle angle today after work of my 1600 and then we can compare.

I know I rather like the look of the 1600 dash board. It will be interesting to compare them.

Hi Hein I rather like the instrument binnacle in the 1600 . Your dashboard top has also stood the test of time . I have covered the top of mine as it was destroyed by the sun and the "Agent" who glued crudely a piece of carpet on the top. Ronnie

Hi guys
I think the 1600 dash looks much better. Would like to see it with a 1700 steering wheel.

Hi Charles
The one good thing about the 1700 dash is it is much easier to make a new top for as it is almost level and does not slope steeply. I still reckon I could come up with something that would look OK on the 1600 if I had a sample ;D

Hi All My Brothers' Lada univ joint in front off the xfer box had some play. His Mech matched the size to..... believe it or not........ wait for it........ a John Deere tractor univ joint .... I found this quite unbelievable. Maar daar het julle dit. I assume the other univ joints are all the same size. Regards Des
