Hi there,
I must apologize that this has nothing to do with Ladas.
I am looking for someone in Cape Town that owns an old Willys cj2
I am looking at purchasing one, but it isn't in Cape Town so before I go further I'd like to test drive one. If anybody knows of someone that wouldn't mind sparing 20 minutes that has a cj2, that would be amazing!
Thanks!
Damian

Damian what do you want to do with it? They are very rough and noisy. Fantastic vehicles. Build for moving troops and cargo over any terrain. On road they are very close to terrible, but you can go anywhere with it and will never be able to kill it. Those 2.2 go devil engines are fantastic. Try to get one as stock as possible. Make it nato green, canvas seats and radial tyres. Then you will have a beaut. I love them. One of the cars that has to be in my garage someday.

Hi Charles,
Thank you for responding. Well truth be told I don't drive all that often. I work from home and have never really driven too much.
I recently sold my car (a tazz) and thought it would be a really fun idea to get a 4x4. I first looked at Lada's, then Suzuki sj410's.. Now looking at Willy's Jeeps.
I don't think I am going to go too hectically into 4x4ing and don't really want to spend too much on a car. The budget I have set is R60k, I will go a couple of grand over if I really need to if I find a great deal on something.. But preferably not.
So the problem I am having is do I get something old/rustic (and what I imagine to be a whole lot of fun given that you don't have to sit in traffic everyday which I don't) like a Jeep or something like that. Or do I get something more modern which has it's benifits aswell.. Such as comfort/safety.
I don't really know much about cars at all so it is a tricky choice. I figure that generally speaking I would lose less money purchasing an old Jeep as they aren't really depreciating that much because of their age - seeing they are so old already. And if I buy something more modern, because my budget is small I won't get much.. and I don't want a Cherokee or a Freelander.
A tough choice indeed.. This is why I am hoping to find someone that has a Willy's Jeep CJ2 so I can get an idea what it is like to drive.
Cheers,
D
