Thanks guys.
Stephen: I have got 2 antenna's on the Niva, one at the back and one in front. The one at the back was a magnet base 2 way radios antenna and the front one is the radios fixed antenna, not very well done.

Allen I'm also busy to install a 2m Icom 2200H in our Lada. I'm using a bracket so that I can swop the Icom for the Yaesu 857D when I do get a Mobile HF Antenna. I'm currently using a Magmount, but would like to go for a semi-permanent Antenna on the front BB. Where did you mount your Radio? The best I could do was under the Dash, Far Right.
Cheerio Stephen

Hello Stephen
We just let the radio lay loose inside of the front left shelf above the passages feet as it was my Dad's radio for his drivers bakkie. When driving in convoy it is much easier to speaking on the radios. I want to buy myself a radio that i can make it a permanent fixture in the Niva. How far does the Mobile HF antenna catch up.
Regards, Allen

Hello Conrad
We went up to Bilene. Very nice camping site as you are on the lagoon beach but very far away from the sea's beach.

Allen/Charles I'm an Amateur Radio Operator (HAM) & Member of Hamnet Western Cape The Output of the Icom is 65W/25W/10W/5W I keep it on 25W and even 10W when using the Local Repeater on Hawequas Mountain.
I use a Diamond NR780R Dualband Magmount Antenna (VHF/UHF) which reach Cape Town from Paarl. When I'm on higher places like Du Toitskloof I can reach Cape Town with my Handy (5W output)
I use the Radio for general chats with fellow Amateurs; but Also for Radio Comms during Events like the Two Oceans or other Events when we do support. HAMNet is also involved in Rescue Operations and Radio Comms where normal Telecomms is not possible like the recent Bontekoe Mine Disaster and the gentleman who got lost in Franchhoek 7/8/9 Sept 2012 We are permissioned to use the Emergency Frequencies of WSAR, ORRA, Metro Ambulance Services because we support them during Emergencies.
That's why I need to get my Lada on par and be able to go where the Landy's, Toy's, Zuuks and Cruisers go. Swopped from a Landy to Toy to Lada and now need to proof my Choice of Decission was worth it.
Regards Stephen

Hello Gav, I will load over the weekend, as the Niva is broken and standing the garage and not much place to take photos of the carrier.

@allen The 2m monoband radio's is not expensive, about R2 200.00. Dual, Tri and All Band All Mode is very expensive, up to R40K. There's currently Radio's on the SARL website not that expensive. HAM's come from all walks of live: Local Yokels like me to Astronuats, Pilots, Teachers, Mechs, etc. It's a very rewarding, if not most, hobby. If you do have a chance, visit and talk to a HAM. Just look for some antennas is you area. Have a lekker Niva Day
