The 205 R16 rubs a clean spot on the back of the wheel arch and a little on the coil as well, so yours may also do that. Look for a patch with no paint.

Very neat job. Better stay close to the PC or Laptop. You are going to be flooded, it is safe to that 50% + NIVA s here suffer from cracked dashboards.
Where did you source parts please?

thanks guys yip referbished all myself old parts just plastic welded all the holes and breaks in the consoles and hed the dash covered by a place here in haarties not the best job on the covering cause the dash was coated in silicone spray so she had to remove all the cracked plastic in order to get the vinal to stick directly to the foam........ so as a result its a little wavey but i have a plan in mind how to sort it out prober with some powder coated allimnuim inserts im going to have made by a mate who has his own enginering place.
im looking for some covers for the two open holes in the switch console if anybody has an idea?

You can just buy two switches and use it either as fake or real.

Glen, nice job.
I had a Dixon battery lasted about 18 months and gave up the ghost, would only start the car in winter, when the temp was below 2 degrees.

Hi Glenn
Check the thermostat, water pump and radiator cap. Many Niva`s have been fitted in the past with the wrong cap. The neck of the filler is deeper than the standard radiator neck, so the cap does not seal. Make sure you have a cowl fitted as Spikes has already mentioned. I am in favor of fitting an electric fan, but this should not be used to try and cure an overheating problem. Make sure the problem is fixed first. I have used a Niva in low range in deep sand for hour after hour in very high ambient temperatures with an air con running with no overheating issues, so if the cooling system is in good condition you should have no problems. Having said that I think the cooling system is marginal in SA conditions so it is important to maintain it in good condition.

Hi Glenn
When the thermostat is working correctly until it starts to open at I think 86 degrees the radiator should be cold as the thermostat very effectively completely by-passes the radiator. As soon as it starts to open you should feel the heat spreading from the top left of the radiator to the bottom left and there should be a big drop in temp in the hose from the bottom of the radiator to the thermostat. In my opinion the only way to be sure the radiator is OK is by taking it to a radiator specialist.

He Glenn The radiator cap looks a bit suspect to me. If it is a local purchase the chance that it does not seal properly to pressurise the system is 90%+ ronnie see this link: i1175.photobucket.com/albums/r628/glennt2/5b0a4202.jpgThe Fan will help but will not be very effective without the inner cowl Lastly does your NIVA actually boil is the gauge just being very active?. Sounds like a defective radiator cap to me. I think Ari's did the same.

Hi. Had the very same problem on my (sold) lada. It will get boiling hot in the summer if u dont have a cowling for the fan. I made my own from some scrap plate and flatbar in a few minutes. I realy think the cowling is a must have. My temp was ok when driving around town but put it in low range and it over heats like that. Fitting a electronic fan will also do the trick. I Have a fan for u if u want it. Ruan

I still have this issue when using low range for extended periods of time despite having the fan shroud in place. So I fitted an electric fan which gets switched on as soon as I engage low range now.
I would still suggest you try and solve the underlying problem first though like replacing the radiator cap and fitting a shroud if its missing.
