Hello all I've been looking for a Lada for about 6 weeks and have taken the time to do as much research as possible. I find the posts by Danie, Ronnie and Hercules especially informative and entertaining. So, with that in mind, I would like to ask for some advice. I have narrowed down the list of candidates down to 2, with the leader being this Lada in Maritzburg: durban.gumtree.co.za/c-Cars-Vehicles-Motorbikes-Parts-cars-R35K-LADA-NIVA-4x4-1-7i-W0QQAdIdZ186961045Apparently the well known Russian dude by the name of Vince (though I'm sure this is his "English" name) has worked on the car in PMB and can vouch for it. The owner has promised that here is no rust on the car, that he's never driven like a hooligan (although he is from Natal, and they're all maniacs down there) and that it has had the appropriate maintenance done. The front bumper is bent from pulling another 4x4 out of the mud, but what concerns me is that the back bumper is not spec, like the front bumper. So gentlemen, what say you? Regards Darryn.

if that's all that worries you,it's definetly not a factory bumper, but probably an after market one made for lada sa. still looks good to me,but i don't know what the r is compared to aud (aussie dollar) the lada is a great vehicle,& if it's been properly maintained, you can't go wrong

Hi Darryn Welcome to the forum - hope you will be able to find a Lada soon. The Russian guy in Pietermaritzburg 's name is Ventz (can't remember his surname). His cell no. is 082 9235055 (the one I've got) , but I am not sure if this number still works. Apparently he lost a cell phone in the past, and got a new one - so I am not sure if this number (above) still works. I don't want to phone this number now - it is still early in the morning, and he might be sleeping........ I never met Ventz before, but I phoned him about three years ago. He was keen to work on any Lada, and prepared to travel to Durban to work on Ladas at home, even or Saturdays and Sundays. There are quite a few beautiful Ladas on the market at the moment, so it might be difficult to make the correct choice: www.junkmail.co.za/searchResults.php?ftv=t&rgn=0005&adv=t&kwd=Lada+Niva&srchbtn=Search&sec=9&cat=0&minPrice=&maxPrice=&all=t&adi=0&edt=&rct=30&pgn=1Regards Danie

Welcome aboard Darren. Hope you find your Lada soon. The Lada you refir to has indeed a Side Kick rear bumper fitted. It is a fibre glass bumper with a step on top and a heavy duty steel frame behind it. The Side kick kit was designed, manufacture and fitted by a compony in Pinetown.
Regards.
Hercules.

Sorry to hijack the thread.
Hercules, do you perhaps have any company details ? I just wondered if they still exist, and if so - if they would still be able to make wheel arches.
Regards
Danie

Hallo Danie.
The company that created the Sidekick in 2000 was International Import Lada SA, which was part of CMH importers in Pinetown. They were the third company to import Lada's. The conversions were done at their Pinetown Warehouse.
I did find another company that was making upgrate kits for Lada, eg. wheel arches, lift suspentions, spare wheel brackets, bigger feul tanks, ect in Turffontein. They are RACossack Motorsport, tel: 086-110-0618. I do not know if they still excist.
Hope this can help you.
Regards.
Hercules.

Hi Darryn
Welcome to the Forum. Only arrived home late yesterday from a short holiday. Now trying to catch up on what has been on. The Lada in PMB looks OK , one rear mud flap missing. As Dannie says there are a lot of good looking ones on junk mail at present. Chose wisely and don't rush.
Regards
Ronnie

Yeah, he bumped the back. I asked him fro photos of the exterior and interior and he actually sent them! It really doesn't look serious by the look of the photos. The inside is in good nick, although it's quite dirty (that will change if I get the car). If been watching the junk mail for almost two months now, but I have until early April to make up my mind, so there's not rush.

Keep us posted Darryn - if you are not sure about anything, feel free rather to ask questions........
Thanks Ronnie - I hope to find something I like. I think some Lada "purists" would completely disagree about my ideas for my Lada............ ;D
Regards
Danie
