Does someone have such a fuel pump for me? Are there local replacement part identified, i.e. Merc or BMW as my mechanic suggests?

The fuel pump is a normal high pressure in tank pump. Take yours as a sample to your spares shop. Should be about R600 max. Ill have a look tomorrow if I have a pump.
Just send me a email tomorrow morning to remind me. charles.boshoff(AT)gmail.com

Hi Steve, I have not checked the pressure yet but I suspect the pump's pressure is down. When we got the Lada the fuel filter was blocked solid which could have caused the pump too work harder than it should. All the supply and return routes for the fuel are clean and the tank as well. The effect I am getting is a definite fuel shortage when accelerating from a constant speed.

Hi Darrel
You should be getting about 2.5bar of pressure from the fuel pump, at least that is what Chris and I got when we were fault testing another TBI, this was by simply switching the ignition on and not starting her (after we discovered that our initial lack of pressure problems were caused by no fuel even though the gauge read full)
Does your engine warning light stay on or come on while driving?

Sorry for only responding now! The lights comes on after a while and stays on for approximately 10s, off for 30s and repeats again.

Oops, I forgot to add, the little black bag at the bottom of the pump contains "stuff" I could not remove the bag or open it, could this be dirt clogging the pump?

Hi Darren
Diesel Electric (Bosch Agents) have a range of electric fuel pumps as well The "bag of stuff" is likely a blocked filter of the gauze type
