Hi All. Finished connecting the prop shafts and closing up inside. Have had it out a run, no leaks so far and no shudder when in low box. If it stays like this I will be happy. . Hi Marius ,I see you are on line. I assume it is afternoon tea break Ronnie

Hi Ronnie
I can move Threads, but not posts which have been sent afterwards.
I am able to delete posts completely though - but prefer not to do that , if not really needed.
Regards
Danie

Hi Danie
I received the distributor today. Was very exited so I inspected the whole thing. Some parts were slightly seized. I have stripped the whole unit and placed all the parts in vinegar to remove the rust. I'm sure it will be fine as long as the pickup still works. I will test it in the morning.
I will have to get a new rotor. Do you know if the rotor is the same as a fiat or any other car? It seems that the distributor cap is still ok, but what was the 2 holes on the side for?
I will post some pictures after the vinegar did its work.
Regards
Hein

Hi Hein I hope you will still be able to use the distributor - was actually hoping that it gets lost then you could buy a brand new one......... If it needs a new rotor you might not be able to use it at all - I am not aware of any other rotor which might fit. I also do not know what the two holes are for. The cap on my Lada's distributor is black, and there are no holes at all. Jan has once replaced the cap on my Lada, and I can't remember the color of the original cap, or whether it had holes or not. Anyway, I do not like those holes at all - water could easily enter the distributor via those holes, and could cause obvious problems. Jan's explanation for replacing the original cap (still in good condition), was that the Lada caps tend to give problems, and often needs to be replaced...........perhaps Vents could verify whether this is true or not. Regards Danie

Hi Hein.
I got a modified cap on my lada but no holes in the cap. The cap I used is an Echlin EP214 (which is a Fiat 124 cap) and just file the blank off out next to the locating cut out. The rotor for this EP214 capis Echlin EP223. The rotor look the same as the Lada rotor but got two ribs in which result that the rotor sit to high. To fit this rotor you need to take the two ribs away so the rotor can sit in the correct position. The original/correct rotor is only availlable at the agents.
The Lada cap and rotor is a modified Fiat cap and rotor only made for Lada.
Hope this can help you.
Regards.

Hi Danie
The holes on the side looks like it was a after thought.
Hercules
This forum once again the best thing any Lada owner could do. I will be off to get the Echlin parts ASAP.
Is the VW plug and the Lada plug on the Distributor identical. That will save me some time as I could just get the harness from a scrap yard.

Hi Danie The original cap with holes in the side is what is on my Lada. The photo here is the spare ones I got when I bought the Lada from Jan. Ronnie

Hi Ronnie
The cap I got from Jan has no name printed on it like yours, and there are no holes at all. Jan seem to sell two different type of caps then.

Hi Danie
Just a picture of the distributor I got from you after the vinegar treatment. All mechanic components work 100%, I just need to verify that the hall sensor is still working. I will use my mom's golf to do that as I cannot seem to work out how the "diode check" method works. That will have to wait till I visit my parents. This weekend it's out with dash and redo of wiring.

Hi all
I talked to a auto electrical friend of mine. He converted a lada to electronic ignition recently. He used a electronic distrubutor from a newer lada and the tci module from a golf. The one with the heat sink. Then you buy a golf tci wire kit. That just plugs in and you are sorted.
