Hi Ari
Your Niva did not come with the starting handle, my engineering friend made it for me and I ordered the crank nut from one of the old dealers.

Ruan, please let me know what you would charge to make a crank handle for me, assuming you can get a crank nut.
I will email Pavel to check his side for nuts

So you will need to steal the nut as well. . . . @ Ronnie I thought the crank nut and handle were standard. Ari

Hi Ari
It was a long time ago, but I am sure it was for the Niva that Mike made the starting handle for. Perhaps someone else can remember if it was standard in those days.

I made a crank handle a while back. Weld 30mm piece of 8mm round bar on to the end of about 800mm length of 16mm round bar. If you have a good bench vice attached to a (very) heavy table, you should be bale to bend the crank into it like that.

Ruan just make sure that the crank nut will eject the handle when the crank starts spinning.

should you not slot into the longer side of the throat? That way the handle runs into the short side of the throat making it easier to get out when the engine fires. it is a bicth to start any engine with a crank if there is no decomp lever on the engine

A crank handle and nut will really make it easy to do the timing chain Tensioner adjustments every 10 000 km.
If crank Nuts are still available from Pavel, I will definately order one when I place my next order.

Hi Ruan
As far as I Know all Nivas already have the hole in the bumper, it is behind the rubber covering.
