Conrad, as promised yesterday. Riaan, there has been a lot of talk here about the Shongweni Waterfall.

My Lada is not ready yet, but I will join in future. Just a suggestion to the guys who find themselves in the Durban and Surrounding area : What about having a meeting every two or three months, always at the same place - i.e at a Steakhouse, Keg, etc. in the Highway area. I am aware of quite a number of motorcycle clubs who do the same, with great success. There would be no need to "wait and see" whether other owners are interested in attending a specific meeting. All you do is to arrive at the venue, and see who is there. If nobody else arrive, you still have your meal, beer etc. , enjoy yourself - and then go home. Who knows, when you arrive at the next meeting, there might be some Lada owners who have decided to attend the meeting . Apart from the regular meetings at a specific venue, there should obviously be more meetings in the wild for some "playtime " . ;D Danie

Thanks Steve for getting the kzn members mobilised.
Riaan, there are a couple of options. For me the best bet would be a get together at Killarney. Although you have to pay an entrance fee, they have braai facilities, a swimming pool and toilets. It will be nice to relax round a braai after playing in the dirt plus its family friendly.
Shongweni waterfall is more challenging but it is free. You can always take a portable braai to the waterfall, but for those who are bringing wives or children, the lack of toilet facilities may pose an issue.
Ari has also been talking about a 4x4 course at stoney ridge as a lada get together, but I'm not sure what their prices are like?
Lastly I believe there are some trails nearer you in Toti. Have you tried any of these?
Danie I like your idea and think we should make it a regular event.

Conrad, there is a couple of nice trails, especially going to the waterfall. Drove there so far only once in the Niva, not the whole way though as I didn't know the route that well. I am planning to do it again, did the route on a quad before.
Danie I think a monthly or bi-monthly get together like that is a awesome idea.

If you have it at Killarney it will have the advantage that members with presently non-running NIVA can also join in for the day
Conrad, you can create a Poll. Check top right on the opening page(index) of the "general topic"

Okay this is just a suggestion:
Let's have a meeting at the Lord William Charles restaurant, Pineville Junction, 81 Stapleton Road Pinetown every 1st Saturday of every third month - at 2.00 PM.
The parking area at this venue is located right next to a busy road (Stapleton Road), and can be used as departure point to other venues - like the Killarney 4 x 4 track.
To my mind owners should rather gather as a group at this venue, and then leave in "convoy" - to take part in any other activity (i.e. Killarney). By doing this , the general public will become more aware of the activities of our local Lada owners, including Locsa. I believe that should owners arrive at Killarney, or any other venue one by one, the public out there will still hardly take notice of any Locsa activities - but Lada "convoys" should definately draw more attention. This should also generate more interest in Ladas in general as well.
Suggested dates for meetings at 2.00 PM, Pineville Junction (2012):
1. First Saturday of July (7/7/2012) 2. First Saturday of September (1/9/2012) 3. First Saturday of December (1/12/2012)
Another suggestion:
Let's stick to the dates - even when a specific date does not suit everyone. If you can't be there at one of the mentioned dates, there will always be another date which will suit you.
Danie

Hi Danie,
Thats a brilliant idea. I would just like toi make one suggestion though. Can we meet earlier than 2pm?
If we wait till 2:30 or even 3 for everyone to get there, we will only arrive at Killarney etc at 3:30, which leaves very little time to play around before dark. I would say we meet between 10 and 12. Thanks Conrad

Hi Conrad Thanks for your response. To be honest, I think most Ladas in this area have been fitted with normal road Tyres - which will not be suitable for some of the obstacles I have seen at the Killarney 4 x 4 track. One just need to read a report at the last page of the latest (June 2012) edition of the Weg Ry / Drive Out magazine, to see what damage can be caused to any given 4 X 4 vehicle, when obstacles get "attacked" at speed, because proper Off Road tyres have not been fitted to the 4 x 4 vehicle. The last thing we can afford at any of these "playing" meetings, is to see serious damage to any of our member's Ladas. To my mind this could easily destroy any hope of having meetings on a regular basis. I know I now sounds like " 'n ou vrou met n nat broek", but for the time being I think we just need to get together - some local Ladas, and owners might not be "off-road ready " yet. Things will fall in place anyway. Anyway, my Lada is not ready yet, so I will not be able to take part in any off-road activities at Killarney for the time being. I am fully committed to attend meetings at Pineville Junction at the above mentioned dates though. If nobody else turns up, I will be there , enjoy myself , and then go home anyway. Danie

Danie I think you are right. I also read that page and it must've hurt. I am all open to regular get together but with at least two decent play days every few months. I don't have a lot of 4X4 experience, so don't want to tackle anything too difficult yet.

Hi Riaan
I was actually worried that my previous post could cause less enthusiasm for future gatherings, but I think in the longer term it would be way better to get everybody together, including new owners who might use there Ladas as only means of transport every day of their lives. Those owners might not be prepared to risk their Ladas during tough offroad conditions, and i think we should try to accommodate then as well.

Hi Guys,
I have no problem getting together first for a meet and greet, but would still like to do off-road trails as a group later.
I agree that we shouldn't tackle anything too hectic as I too am a rather inexperienced off-roader. However I do believe that the best way to learn is by doing as long as common sense is used.
That's why Killarney is a great venue. You don't have to tackle the regional championship course if you aren't confident to. You can do one of the easier routes/obstacles.
Unfortunately I haven't seen the article in question. I hope nobody got hurt?

Hi guys, Like Danie said, I only have my Niva as well, so don't want to tackle anything too hectic but I would love to go do a off road trial with you guys. I'm sure it will be fun. Conrad The guy in the article busted his new bakkie while overshooting a bit of a steep hill. Maybe he shouldve used a Niva

it definitely sounds like he should have been driving a niva. There's no way he would have been able to attack anything at speed then!
