Hi all
Bought a Niva the 1.7i last year, drove it a bit. Then came service time, and being in a hurry I managed to bend some valves when adjusting the timing.
I ordered a bunch of parts from Pavel, now im busy stripping and rebuilding the car and finding other broken/warn/missing bits.
I will upload some pictures when im finished with the rebuild.
The previous owner had the transfer case replaced but it must be from a carb model because there is no plug for VSS. does any body know what the effect of having no VSS is on the performance of the car
Thanks Warren

Welcome Warren! Hope you get your NIVA fixed pretty soon. Theoretically the missing VSS should throw the Fuel injection ECU into a "Engine Warning Light" mode. Was the yellow light in the far left burning constantly when you had it running? Hopefully Jan from Belgium will be able to advise. Mine is present and connected Regards

The check engine light has never come on, but i have a feeling the bulb was removed,by the mechanic, when the transfer case was replaced to prevent any complaints from the previous owner.
Pretty much-Out of sight, out of mind

Between 300 and 370 TBI models were imported in total.

I am thinking of getting a TBI as my second Niva, Ventz tells me it aint worth the cost to convert it, better to just buy one with TBI

without vss the ecu don't know the speed of the car. Fuel/air mixture will not be a 100% ok and timing of igition will always be to late when you accelerate and/or under load

Hi Warren.
I have a TBI myself. If you can get the lightbulb fixed you can read the error codes to see if it does identify vss issues.
In what state of assembly is the vehicle? If you are in Jo'burg area I can tell you where to go for a auto electrical shop that knows Nivas.

Hi Spencer
Any possibility that you can reveal the Electrical Shop's contact details at this website?

Spencer, please share those details, I could use them as I have intermittent electrical problems, probably caused by rats when Sharkey was stored for 6 months by her previous owner.
