Hi Joined the site a couple of days ago, bought a very nice Lada. First one I owned was not very reliable and had endless hassles and little funds to have it fixed. This one is very well maintained and in good nick except for a niggle here and there. Attachments:

Welcome to the forum! Hope you get the brakes sorted out soon. You can give Ventz a try. Spares should not take more than 2 days from PMB to you. He is listed under suppliers. Mike in CT will also be able to supply about the same time frame I'd say The NIVA is looking good! Spikes

Nope, it is the original ones that was available when the Lada just came out. Vehicle has been standing since 2006 to 2009.

darryn I bought the Lada from a person with the name of Dimitris, very nice guy. according to him the history of the Lada is as follows:
Fir ts owner was a German fellow who owned it, it was then bought by a young chap who wanted to get a license and drive it. Unable to get a license Dimitris bought it. unfortunately due to commitments he could not drive it as often and that's were I got it.
According to centurion Lada and Dimitris it was standing between 2006 and 2011. Engine redone, ball joints, brakes gearbox and some other things. It is very neat and clean, some niggles but will sort it out. Main thing was that the price was right.
Plan to keep it for some time and enjoy it.

Micheal you should have a close look at the condition of all the rubber boots. Cars don't like to be left standing for that long. What are the small niggles you are referring to? Can you post a close-up of the sidewall and the thread of those tyres please? 15K is a huge bargain - provided that the car is in a fairly ok condition - yours looks great! Marius

Marius
For one 1st 2nd and 3rd is a bit noisy when driving, but id does not pop out of gear, the clutch has a noise to it when released and the vehicle is idling. I have picked up a oil leak on the rear diff, actually thought it was a brake cylinder that is leaking, most of the rubbers have been replaced. The fuel filter needs replacing as it has a plastic one and needs a steel one due to it being fuel injected. the fuel tank needs a bit of cleaning as the fuel is brown.
The Tyre's are called trayal or something like, it is 16", it has a lot of tread left, but will get normal road tyres and second pair of rims to use while driving it on the road.

Micheal the noise in in 1st -3rd gear may well be a busted bearing even though the gearbox had a rebuild. The noise from the released clutch is very normal - UNLESS is is very noisy - then it could be the clutch release bearing. The leak on the diff: Is it on the diff housing itself or on the axle near the wheels? I had oil leaking through the breather which was very difficult to cure. The Trayal tyres are not the originals that came with the CMH imported ones. They were at first - the VLi-10 and then some VLi-5's were imported. Both were 175/80R16. What size are those Trayals? Hi Michael, Check the breather, I had the same problem. The spring inside the breather loses tension and blow-by runs down the side of the diff so one get the impression that it is the diff. New breathers are(were beginning of January)only available on import. Be aware that the freight on the breather alone will far exceed it purchase price so combine with other stuff when you order.

Hi
The leak is near the wheels, I took the back drum off and found it behind there. not sure where the breather is situated.
The tyre size is 175/80R16, will take close up and post it for you. I will take the Lada for a checkup of the gearbox soon, I am not driving it at the moment, need to sort out the paperwork which should be Friday.

I take it the leak is in the inside of the drums. IF that is the case you only need to replace the oil seal on the axle.
Unless you know for a fact that the car has been serviced properly you should replace ALL the oil in the boxes with fresh oil because the car was idle for a very long period.
You can put normal 80W90 (GL-5) gear oil in all the boxes, but the transfer case and the two diffs should actually have the thicker 85W140.
The thicker oil can actually help to cure your oil leak - provided it's not a major leak.
Marius PS - I am very curious about those tyres.

Hi Michael
Welcome to the forum.
As mentioned by Marius, it is very important to change all oils immediately.
A close look at the condition of the drained gearbox, diff, and transfer box oils could probably give an indication of the condition of the bearings, and other components as well. Should the oil be "milky", it means that the oil contains some water, and the bearings will then be rusted - that's probably causing the noise .

Hi
Will Drain all oil this weekend and put fresh ones in. Will look for discoloration of oil. Marius I promise I will take photo of the wheels.
Question to Marius, I have a service manual of the lada, but what do I need to remove to get to the oil seal and how difficult will this be or should I rather take it to someone to do, and what oil seal can I use?

Eric from Iceland supplied this link today which gives a complete "how to". nivaventure.free.fr/Texte/Entretien/Pont_ar/Pont_ar_en.htmIt is not a difficult job, but you need time and big muscles to undo those nuts! You can also take the car to a reputable mechanic to do the job, but try and get the original oil seals from the dealers - like Jan. You can ask him for a quote to do the job. Marius

1) You will need to remove the wheel. 2) Remove the brake drum. 3) Loosen and remove the 4 nuts behind the brake assembly plate. 4) Pull the axle shaft out (it may require some force, 2 M8 200mm long threaded rods help as there are 2 threaded holes in the hub and the rods will act as a puller.) 5) You should see the oil seal or be able to feel it with your fingers.
oil seal part number is 2101-2401034 Oring around rear wheel bearing part number is 2121-2401065 and you may as well replace the wheel bearing while you are in there part number at a spares place, 62208 if memory is right
Ventz has the seals and orings I think.

If you replace the bearing remember to always use a new bearing retainer. Otherwise this will happen. Charles Attachments:

Now that is a really good looking Niva Micheal!! I had exactly the same colour with the same tyres on. I love those Trayals and they work great off road. Apparently it was a guy from PE that imported those tyres and sold them. . . . I doubt you will find them again.
Oh yes, welcome to the forum!
