After the first 1238km were pretty much problem free (I knew i had to replace the noisy ball joints when i bought it) i experienced my first problem with my Niva..... Driving home last night my eye caught the rev counter and although everything felt and sounded fine the counter read +\- 7200rpm and the heat gauge shot into the red . Now I know I had a beer, only one I swear or was it two , anyway it wasn't enough for me to start seeing double or having hallucination or anything to that affect. Around a km further on I noticed it again, but funny enough it seemed to only happen when I'm turning. At the next junction I realised that every time I turn the indicator on the rev counter and heat gauge jumps up and down. Has anyone experienced the same problem or have an easy fix? I'm sure it's not the beer, because it did it this morning as well. ;D

If it was a constant problem (and judging that you had "ONLY 2 BEERS") you could have been driving around in low range - but unfortunately it may well be something serious. First time for me though It MIGHT just be that the steering (a big protruding nut) could cause a short on the harness - that is quite common. Marius

It sounds like a bad earth connection - if you can't solve the problem yourself, any auto electrician should be able to solve the problem.

As said, check the wiring where it runs down the steering column, under the cowl. Frequently wears against the UJ for the column itself. Repair and tape out the way. John

i second the opinions above, but WHY ON EARTH did you have only 2 beers? BTW: are you sure the VW Golf in the pics above is not a 4x4 syncro version?

Definitely not the syncro version. Its a little 1.4 fwd with around 110bhp at the wheels. Freddy Loix (probably Belgium's most famous rally driver) imported the Proudly South African build 4x4 polo's a few years back. That was some awesome machinery...
Should have had more beers then maybe I would not have realised that there was a problem ;D

the most famous would be Patrick Snijers, but Freddy is without any doubt the most popular one

Hi Kick01 Welcome to the forum ! With such low mileage on your Lada, you must be driving the "newest"Lada at the forum . ;D Just some advice - if I were you, I would change the Gearbox, Transfer Box, and Diff oils immediately. Don't be too comfortable about the low mileage on the car - most owners have never used the correct oils on these cars..... Danie Agreed Danie ONLY API GL5 spec lubes in the drive train. Regards Vincent
