Here is a close-up of the TRAX. It seems quite original but the Security supervisor did not know any of its history Regards Spikes Attachments:

Hi Ronnie Yes they were quite expensive when new. I have seen this particular one around on a couple of occasions, but never stationary.

Hi Darryn Early 70's just after the Chev Nomad was built a South African company( I think there was some involvement with the GSM Dart team) built the Trax. All independent suspension with diff lock front and back. Six cylinder engine. I think from the Valiant. There were only a few built(Less than the number of NIVA imported to South Africa) It cannot be described as a success There was some mention of it a while back in one of the threads spikes

Hi Spikes
I have found out where the "interstate came from. The company building them was The Interstate Motor Vehicle Company. All things like separate brakes etc were extra, and most vehicles produced were built to the customers spec.

Hi Spikes
I have once read some very positive comments about the Trax vehicles - I still have a feeling that it is a real pity that it has been discontinued .

Hi all Ari is quite correct, the Trax was 2x4. The one in the picture has both rear brake levers.

Hi Darryn The Trax is not to be confused with the Chev Nomad. As Ronnie said, they were customised by the builders to the specs required by the buyer. @ Danie, one of the sad stories of the war effort in SWA and Angola that the Trax never made it in big numbers. @ari, this could be a family project for you. It is presently being used to cart security guards to various posts around the Brondal area Spikes

As I said previously my father's father (my grandfather) codesigned and built them. My uncle (my fathers brother) bought one this year and my father spent 2-3 weeks to road worthy it. I have some pics of my uncles one which I'll post up.

Sorry Danie but he died in the early 90's so that is a dead end.
