Hi All
Im really intrested in getting a Lada Niva for day to day use and fishing trips up to Moz. Now i have read mixed reviews on this awesome lil 4x4 but im still keen to get one. Im looking to spend in the regin of R25000-R30000 and i just wanted to ask what things to look out for and early warning signs that the vehicle will be a nightmare. Im busy downgrading from the bakkie i have now to save money so i want a reliable car that wont break down all the time, i know there will be work and maintenace needed on these cars which im fine with and i love doing myself i just dont want to get stuck with a vehicle that gives me endless worries, any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Welcome to the forum, Dick. Be patient and keep on searching. You will find a good NIVA in your price range.

Hi Dick
Welcome to the forum. Probably your best and safest bet would be to buy one of Ventz's rebuilds, but I am sure there are a couple of good Ladas for sale out there.

Hi Dick
Welcome to the Forum. I don`t know where you live but your safest bet would be to buy from the likes of Ventz who has Nivas available from tome to time or if you stay close to one of the regular members on the Forum, I am sure they would be more than eager to look at some Nivas with you and to keep you right.

Hi Dick
Welcome to the forum.
Let me put it this way - if I only had R30 000.00 to spend on a Lada, I would buy one "in good condition" for R20 000.00, and then start importing whichever parts are needed directly from Russia.
By doing that, you will be able to build up a reliable Lada yourself - maybe for less than R30 000.00.
By doing things yourself, you could obviously save yourself a lot of money - and eventually become a happy Lada owner.
Regards
Danie

Hi Dick
Welcome and I really like your choice in 4x4's.
As a daily driver of a Lada, accept the fact that initially you may find yourself having to deal with the strangest of possible break downs.
Persevere as you will suddenly find that one day the Lada is suddenly without any more issues.
Know as well that the Lada you will find out in the open market may have some "hidden" issues. Make your choice - Good mechanicals or good body. Chances are that you will probably not get an all in one package for your budget. All is howver not doom and gloom. The advice given by Danie is good as I believe that most of the Lada's problems stem from Moegoe previous owners.
