Hi Everyone,
I have three questions about my new lada:
1. Who can do a valuation on my Lada (officially tell me what it's worth for insurance purposes); 2. With who can I insure?-who is the suggested best company (eg: Cross-Country, M&F, etc); 3. I have Kumho, Powerguard AT, 195/100 R15 tyres, but what is the new equivalent/new name for these old Kumho's? I have tried the Internet, but is still unsure.

Hi Greenkick
Not sure who will value for you, but I am sure someone in the club will know. I am insured with Zurich ins through a broker I have used for many years. Freda paid R60000 for this rebuilt Niva and that is exactly what it is insured for. Premium for fully comprehensive is R261.03 a month. Remember I have the maximum NCB and I also pay pensioner rates. I have the same size tyres as you and was under the impression they were still available.

Hi Greenkick
Marius has setup a local source for tyres. PM him to see if he still has a set available.

Hi Vincent/Greenkick
For the moment it is only a tyre suitable for the 16" rim as replacement 175/80R16 tyres were impossible to find.

Thanks everyone. I will follow up on the insurance. My LADA has 15" rims though. apparently the Powergaurd is discontinued and is traded under a new name - Still Kumho though, just the tyre name has changed and is R1000 per unit.

Does anyone have some tips/ideas on rocksliders and bellyplates. Is there any that fit or should all be custom made?

Hi Stefan aka Greenkick aka Jaques ;D
I know you are asking for tips/ideas but I would like to give an opinion on those things if you don't mind.
I see that you like to do a bit of bundu bashing - now all that those two items does is actually bringing your Lada closer to the ground and ads extra weight - which is not a good idea.
If you only want to do it for cosmetic reasons - go for it.

Thanks guys,
I want it to be functional (not cosmetic), as I 'fell' onto a rock the other day and dented the underside (close to where you would put the jack).
I am also concerned about the diff's and TC that's a bit exposed when 'falling into' holes with your wheels.
I don't want a sidestep fitted, as one always hits it when getting in and out - just something that can take the hammering instead of my Niva's bodywork.
I did see the adeas on Baxter's, but which would you think is the best/most functional.

Hi Stefan
All would need to be custom made. The best would be to bolt it to the front cross member and have it under the diff and then attach somewhere near or behind the transfer box.

Stefan the best way to deal with boulders like that is to avoid them - they are car wreckers.

Of course not. I met Chris Swale yesterday at our big annual exhibition of vintage vehicles CARS IN THE PARK and we had a good chat. Who the hell put into operation such a harmful rumour??
