Hi Stephan According to the "book" fuel consumption per 100km should give you the following amount of liters used: - At 90 km/h in 5th gear you should get 8.3
- At 120 km/h in 5th gear you should get 11.5
- City driving should give you 10.5
I have been quite happy with our Niva's fuel consumption - so far - averaging around 10 on the open road. I normally cruise at around 100-120. Hardly ever push it beyond that - anything above 120 then it get's heavy on the fuel. If you have a carb - adjusting the timing and CO2 level correctly should keep you within spec. Regards Marius

Having said that - there are many owners who complain about fuel consumption and I am beginning to think that the Weber might have something to do with it

Marius Thanx a mil. That's way better than the Hilux. Got about 14-15l/100 Km. Car was mostly used for our Evangelism / Outreach Program on Farms in Klein Drakenstein and Paarl Area and to cart Sound Equipment to Informal Settlements and Surrounding places like Wellington, Riebeeck Robertson, Worcester, Ceres etc. We Also used the Lux during Holidays for Camping. I may be lucky to go on the Msinga Outreach during September School Holidays. Will use the Lada if everything goes according plan. Maybe I can connect with Lada Owners in KZN for a chat. Will also install my Amateur Radio in the Lada asa I got her. Delivery's been delayed again. Will not speculate when it will be done. I'll rather wait patiently... Will have the settings checked. Regards Stephen

I'm thinking of changing the fuel on my Lada from petrol to vodka, because the fuel consumption at the moment is rather high.

Hi Hera
I don`t know how many people keep ACCURATE records to monitor fuel consumption. My running tends to be very short runs around Pennington. When I had the original carb on I think I was doing about 300 on a tank. This would be about 14L / 100 kms. Based on that I would have expected between 11 and 12L / 100kms on a decent run. The first tank on the Webber was about 18L / 100kms with the jets in the carb when I bought it.. I have no other jets for it at the moment so I have just swapped the primary and secondary main jets around as the secondary are the smallest of the two, so we will see what happens. I have also opened up the primary air correction jet from 170 to200.
Ronnie
PS Marius I have already moved these posts as I was going to answer anyway.

Thanks Ronnie Hera - first see and hear how Sharkie idles at running temprature (around 90 degrees). She should run evenly at around 700-800 RPM. If she stutters replace the fuel filter and clean the carburator with carb cleaner as directed. If she still runs unevenly do the timing and adjustments on the carb. The specs are all inthe manual - take Sharkie to a specialist that has all the equipment do do the job properly. This will include adjusting the CO2 levels in the carb. Normally not expensive to do. You can do it yourself but I would rather leave it to a pro - and I am not saying this because you are a gal! ;D Regards Marius

Dewald - that is indeed very good. Hera - I get the feeling that most gals who drive Ladas can look after themselves Adjustment and checking data is on page 220 and the carb settings on page 55 of the manual (or there and about). The carb settings is for the original carb. Regards Marius

Hi Hera
The grease under the nails goes with learning. We are all learning all the time. You younger ones only need to learn, when you get older you have got to learn and try to remember ;D

Hi Hera.
My Lada got a fuel consumption of 350 - 370 km on a tank, about 12l/100km on the open road and 300 - 320 km or 14l/100km normal everyday to work.
Regards.

Hi Hercules
I know you drive at 120+ so I would think your consumption would be realistic with the Solex carb.

Hi Ronnie. I had to drive above 120 otherwise the vibrations will shake more petrol out of her as that she uses. Regards. Hercules

Some rough figures from me.
Stop and go: About 11.75L/100km
Open road (~110km/h): 10.7L/100km
She has a stock carb (that needs some tuning - perhaps) with a hole in the exhaust. I'm also running with wider tekkies (215). So I might get her to do better but I think she is fairly on par with the book.
Happy Lada times ;D,
Jaco

Hi Shaune
I have to have my say on this one. THERE IS NO ADDITIVE EVER WHICH HAS BEEN PROVEN TO SAVE FUEL. They are all a gimmick, and I would like to see detailed consumption figures over a period of time both before and after.

Hi all After Bongol has been serviced and the correct plugs fitted (as per Ventz BP5ES) the fuel consumption improved from 10.2km/l to 12.7km/l cruising at not more than 100km/u quite happy with that regards all spikes

Hi Spikes and all That is a nice improvement. I think Hercules once mentioned that he uses 95 unleaded. Very common down at the coast but it is normally available 93 on the Highveld (anyway not where I live). I found a Shell garage in Potch today with 95 and I could feel the difference in performance. I also learned that all the Sasol stations have 95. I have not seen any BP stations around here that has 95 - but in future I will be aiming for this cleaner burning petrol. Marius

This was on 95 unleaded. Bongol is (was) very sluggish on 93 Fortunately 95 UL is freely available in the Lowlands
