Hi Danie I see Baxter has posted 1 of your supercharger pics on the UK forum, along with a link to locsa. We will see if it generates any traffic to our Forum Ronnie that is certainly the case some one posted it on our forum as well

The front diff on your Niva - is it seperated from the engine? If so can you post pics of the mounting please? Vriendelike groete uit Suid-Afrika Marius

Hi Charles.
According to the manual are all the different type 1700 and diesel model Lada's the same gearbox ratios aswell as final drive ratio.

Thanks Jan
That is just one of the major reasons why most petrol driven Nivas have some vibration as the front diff is fastened to the engine. Do you suffer from any vibration on your Niva?

Just some feedback regarding the Supercharging mod: To cut a long story short, things have just gone terribly wrong......and I have a feeling that a very long and happy customer / service provider relationship has been blown apart for ever during the final dyno test by the Pro. But wait, this is the story; When I drove past the Pro's workshop the day before yesterday, I noticed that the Lada was at the shop, so I decided to try and find more fresh info. The Pro was not at the shop, so I started chatting to one of the other chaps who worked on the Lada as well. He showed me more mods on the Lada . Since I took the photographs (seen elsewhere at this thread), they have installed an additional fuel injector - which has been mounted to the stainless steel "manifold" just above the throttle body carb. Unfortunately I did not take my camera with, so I could not take any photographs of the additional mods. But believe me the installation really looks professional. Now, during our previous conversation, the owner told me that the Pro was planning to do a final dyno test on the Lada when ready. I could clearly sense that the owner was not in favour of a dyno test with the propshafts connected, as planned by the Pro......... The chap at the workshop was very talkative initially, but when I asked "So, how did things go at the dyno test" his eyes almost got as big as the pulley on the Supercharger and he said: "Everything went very well........... until they pushed the revs very high............. then............ BANG ............ the Transfer Box just blew up in pieces !" Now, during our previous conversation the owner also told me that a brand new Transfer Box has just been installed in his Lada............. Regards Danie.........

Hi Danie
Surely they used a dyno that is for 4x4 's otherwise they are just plain stupid.

Surely they used a dyno that is for 4x4 's otherwise they are just plain stupid. Hi Ari Considering the activity at this Pro's workshop, I think these guys know what they are doing - otherwise they would have been out of business long ago. Yesterday I have had a proper look at the (new) mounting rubbers on my spare Transfer Box. To my mind these rubbers could be the weak link, and way to soft to hold the Transfer Box firmly in place -specially during extreme dyno tests , like a Supercharger modification. If the Transfer Box start shaking and vibrating heavily during a test like this, I am quite convinced that the Transfer Box can easily be "blown up". I also know that they have made a special effort to line all components up properly. Regards Danie

Hi Danie
This is another "unknown" subject for me but a engine dyno test is only to test horsepower and torque. There should not be anything like an "extreme dyno test". My thinking is damage like that can only be caused by gross negligence by the "Pro"?
Anyway I still believe that a modification like this can be very detramental to the health of your car in the long run - I would seriously reconsider if I were you.
But as I have stated - I know very little about the subject.

Hi Marius
I think a Supercharger is the easiest way to get some extra power out of a Lada. Like everything else if it is set up right and not abused and the motor is in good condition there should not be a problem. The speeds Danie drives at it should be fine ;D

Very low boost should be fine. Below 0.3bar is fine on standard fueling.

Hi Charles
0.3 bar does not sound very much, I would have thought 0.7 bar would give a reasonable power increase. Danie what boost was the Durban car set for?
