Hi guys
I`ve got lada niva 1.7. Just bought it and got a few things I want to sort out. The problem is that I have a lot of play on my steering. I did turn the ajustment bolt on the steering but the play is still there any advice from the veterians? I heard that I need to get a new steering box, is that necessary or any other way to fix it?

Welcome Pieter locsa.proboards.com/thread/676/steering-boxHave you have not read this thread already, you may find some pointers there. Have you replaced the tie-rod ends? Worn suspension ball-joints can also contribute to a loose feeling on the road. Spikes

Hi Pieter. Welcome to the forum. What wheels and tires are you running and are they properly inflated?

If the steering has free play when it could be the steering box, or everything else that Spikes said, I am fault finding another Niva with similiar issues at the moment.

Try checking the rear suspension bushes in the trailing bars, I had them replaced (was done incorrectly) and my lada's back end ws all over the road, I did it with the proper parts and no more probs.

is it just some play while turning the wheel or can you move it all over the place? If so, the steering shaft bracket can be broken

ladanivabelgium (Jan), I have another Niva I am working on and the actual steering wheel moves up and down about 7cm, what could that be? It seems to swivel from a point somewhere near to the top of the steering column. I have not had the time to take the covers off yet as I am trying to get her ready for roadworthy certification and I don't think this affects the RWC. Tjeers Steve
