OK, here is my suggestion. I would like to undertake a trip with a bunch of Lada's (that's you guys). A nice weekend breakaway that I can then cover for the magazine. I have been on trips with the Patrol guys, Hilux guys and am going with the Isuzu guys soon - so I though toing with some Lada's for a weekend trip woudl be an excellent idea. So let your minds roam (I will be going in my Safari - so that will be the oldest vehicle there!) and let's see what we can organise for the first half of this year?

Hi Gerrie
Excellent idea !
I think Locsa Management could be involved in organizing this suggested trip as well.
Ari and Darryn (two of our members) are the current event organizers, and I am quite sure that they will be prepared to be involved.
Mike (Lada Doctor) might be willing to help as well - he is in regular contact with some owners down the Cape area, and he might be willing to spread the word as well.

Give me some notice and I can always make a plan to "visit" a client en route to the trip.

Hi Gerrie
Thanks for the effort to organize a trip for a couple of Ladas. I presume the trip is going to be in the Western Cape/Cape Town area. Any particular area you have in mind?
Regards Marius

I have no specific area in mind - thinking more along the lines of you guys make suggestions and we take it from there. It is all about the Lada's after all, I just plan to observe and make a story... So shoot with the suggestions!

Hi Gerrie
I will shortly email all our members in this regard and if any of them are interested they can contact you. To be clear - this event will be held in the Western Cape (with no particular area in mind)?

Gerrie, I still need to fix my Niva up because of the previous poepols that did not look after it. But I would have gone if this wasn't the case...

Hi Gerrie
That is a real pity but there is still time. January is a terrible month as most are still trying to recover from overspending. I think Mike should also get some of his customers involved here.

Hi gerrie, We appreciate it much that you consider us. Thank you. Unfortunately my Niva is currently not mobile due to some modifications and a rebuild. I doubt if it would have been possible to go due to the distance (cost and time - distance is nothing in a Niva), in any case. I would love to go. Maybe we can organise a trip in the central or northern part of the country later? Readers do not get tired of Nivas, because they have character and that something!! Two well spaced trips featuring Niva's will thus be good for circulation figures. Any 4 x 4 magazine needs Nivas to keep the magic alive! Ent van die prent. A trip to the Eastern Transvaal/Mpumalanga will of course be a winner (maybe take the route that the old poskoets between Pretoria and Lourenco Marques traveled)! Or what about a route that some of the famous rallys in Mpumalnga was held? Surely a standard Niva can do a four wheel drift through a forest much better than a Isuzu or a Land Cruise Prado! If you got the knaters I have the 4 x 4 that can do it and be driven home afterward. Regards, Fanus

Hi Gerrie
My Lada will be ready by April / May this year, but I will only be able to join if this event take place close to KZN.
My problem is that my in law family from abroad will be visiting South Africa during February next year. They have never been in our country, and we are planning to tour the country as a family during their visit.
I have to use my available leave at work very wisely, otherwise I will have to take unpaid leave (which I will not consider) during their visit.

OK, so far we seem to have about 5 takers for the Western Cape. What I have in mind is to leave early on a Friday (so one day of leave would be required) Drive as much gravel road on our way to the trial/campsite and set up camp. Then on the Saturday we do the trail and relax around the fire before we pack up camp again on Sunday, drive as much gravel road as possible on our way back (in convoy, of course). So now we only need a suggestion for a camp/trail within say 3 hrs' drive from CT. Ready, set, GO!

Hi Gerrie I've informed three (3) Lada Owners I know: Francois Davis - Wellington Pieter Rossouw - Paarl Andé Jacobs - Klapmuts. Still need to get hold of two other Gentlemen: Faffa and somebody working at Drakenstein Mun. Do not have their contact info, but will get before the planned trip

Gentlemen Good day. I've spoke to Faffa Joubert today. He promised to inform Aucamp. @mike/Gerrie Thank you so much for all the organising. Mike any chance to go camping on the Friday, do the West Coast National Park on the Saturday, sleep over again somewhere and return home Sunday; or Do the Park drive Saturday morning, go camping afterwards and return the Sunday. Looking forward for the trip.

Steve
I think only small parts of the park is open to the public at the moment since flower season is long gone.
I might be able to get a couple of people in. I think there is a limit on the amount of people you can bring in at a time though, will find out.
But I suppose it all depends on the destination that is decided on.

Only saw Mike's message now, must be going blind.... Would be nice if that could be organized. I think you guys need to send Gerrie an email. He started an email chain on Friday that includes all the people that actually sent him an email. Which at the moment is only about 5 people... Regards Koos

Mike
Will be in touch soonest to see what we can organise. Don't think the West Coast NP would be ideal though (that is only at the end of the year, no?) I have been thinking of a destination around Robertson/Montagu area. We leave on a Friday and head out there, drive some gravel roads on the way, get there pitch camp, drive the trail on Saturday and kuier afterwards and head back on Sunday - driving some gravel roads on the way back as well. The reason I am thinking in that direction is because we have some guys from George that would like to join - that way it is kinda in the middle... So what is around that area that you guys fancy doing?

I should probably do some work, but this is definitely more entertaining. Gerrie, I'm not sure if I should send email, or post here, but I suppose you can add it to email if it sounds like a possible option. How about Groot Toren close to McGregor? Regards Koos

Groot Toren looks like fun... Ok, let's do this - I have an e-mail going around, but some guys on the forum have still not e-mailed me directly - I would hate for you to be left out. So, send me an e-mail gerrie@wegry.co.za to be added to the list for the final planning...
