Hi Dimitis, The 4AGE motors were built by Yamaha for Toyota. Upto 1500 built by Daihatsu (including the Yaris). The Landcruiser motor build by the Chinese. Strange world we are living in. The Niva multipoint fuel injection designed by Opel/Chev? The single point fuel injection throttle body is a copy of the Opel T-car one. Strange world ve are living in. But fun! So maybe the only unique people are the modifiers! Regards, Fanus

Igor, Trevor and Darryn thank you for your comments .... sorry it took a while! During a storm, a lightning strike destroyed my modem \ router, also the internet connection was interrupted. I bought a new router, the internet connection is ok , but there is another problem on my computer and now runs very slowly all the programs..... Trevor, I have seen your constructions ..... CONGRATULATIONS!!ladanivawourldwide.freeforums.org/my-1990-bumble-bee-niva-t373.html

That is the cleanest used gearbox I have ever seen! Marius yes ...... after cleaning it for 3 hours!!!!! ;D ;D ;D The important thing is that after 180.000km all parts were in excellent condition except the bearing ......All the rest parts were changed preventively!!!!!

Yes I can see you have put a whole lot of effort into the job! The screw(s) indicated by the blue arrow tends to come loose over time. Use some Loctite to secure them properly. Marius Attachments:

Marius.....You are absolutely right. The gearbox was opened for the first time and the screws were very loose ....... I put loctite....not only at these screws.
All Nivas after 1988 have 5speed gear box....

I did not know that about the 1600. Must be a big improvement in terms of fuel consumption!

Hi Dimitris, I enjoyed the photos of the red Niva very much and reminded me of the times I also played those types of games with my Niva! Unfortunately the bug bit the owner too hard and he raped his Niva to get more applause! Mean mother. A Niva is just not a Niva anymore once you have cut the roof; it then becomes a thing. Thank you for the photos and information of the gearbox overhaul; I now know that I can do the job myself. I think it will not be many moons before I will have to overhaul/repair mine, although my Niva only did 50 000 ks. Preventative maintenance will for ever stay king! Regards, Fanus

Hi Dimitris
How did you manage to install that plastic cap to the intermediate CV joint ?
I have bought a new cap, but it seem to be a very tight fit, and difficult to install. When the CV balls and retainer ring has been removed from my Intermediate CV, I did manage to install the cap from the inside of the housing - but then I could not re install the ball retainer ring, because it needs to be installed sideways, and it was touching the bulge on the cap when I tried to slide it in sideways.
Did you manage to install the cap from the top (outside end) of the CV , and if so, is there any special way to install the cap ?
Regards.
Danie

Hi Danie
I have had that cap out a number of times and mine went in easy every time from the outside. Don`t know if there is any difference in the CV joints, or if they are all the same. The factory no doubt bought from various suppliers.

Danie the only way I know how to install the cap is to slide it at a slight angle downwards into the gap. The sides of the cap will give way as you slide it in. To remove - push the cap down on the one side and probe it out towards you with a flat or a knife. Hope it helps Marius

Thanks Ronnie / Marius.
I have bought a new cap , but it seems to be too big. I am worried that it might break if I try to slide it down from the top.
I also thought that there might be different size caps for CV joints which probably came from different suppliers.
Anyway, I will try to slide it in as suggested, but I have a feeling that it might break....
