We seem to be developing a history or trying to send Niva's swimming, Ceratoth, I forget the second (was at Hennops and the Niva pulled the Sani out of the water about 3 weeks ago) and now Verushka. Looks like you had fun though

Hi Ari Bad luck but your NIVA is home and dry(ing). Please finish the story. How did you get it out? Or is the tow strap the answer?
Nice picture of the clinometer:) You put it to better use than what I ever did
Many years from now, if you big toe looks like that, it will be gout.

Thanks Spikes.
To finish the story. . . . .
Once on top of the dam wall I saw a blue Isuzu bakkie at the bottom and the guy started to wave his arms so I went to see what his problem was. He was stuck on the flat muddy part. So I towed him out. Ten minutes later I tried to cross the stream. I didn't realise that the walls were almost vertical down. Went in and the front bumper hit the wall at the other side stopping me. By now the other guy was chasing his cows around somewhere near the dam (I could here them). The dam wall was about 80m away so I started carrying rocks to the Lada and putting them in front of the wheels. 30min later the guy came back and helped me for 1 hour but we did not make much progress. Then he went back to his cows. I carried on and eventually got her turned so that she face up the stream. 30min later he came back with his bakkie but got stuck twice to get to me. It took us 45min to get him out twice and then he went to get 2 proper spades (mine is small with an axe attached). I directed him carefully back and we dug some trenches to help the Lada out. Then he towed me out. I was 40degrees sideways and she kept running and pulled herself out with the bakkies help.
Sorry no pics of the last part.
Ari

Hi Ari
Thanks for the pics.
I have bought a set of Sidekick rims, and the Bulldogs have been fitted to the Sidekick rims today. I might get another Bulldog for my spare "Smith" rim though - will see.
I will keep the Khumos on the Smith look - alike rims in case I do need them in future.
The Bulldogs are still at work - will send pics as soon as possible.
Danie

It will look nice with the sidekick rims, the offset may be a problem though.

Its the distance from the center of the rim to the flange that bolts to your hub,
Oh I am running a 80mm lift and then the tyres are higher also. . .

Kia Sportage rims are the correct offset for a niva. I think they are 55.

My starter is playing up or should I say playing wet. . . It has power at the solenoid and engages but does not turn. . Ari

I think the offset is to low on them. When the rear axle twist the thing stops on the spot. They are rubbing against the coil springs. Maybe i can fix it with some spacers.

My starter is playing up or should I say playing wet. . . It has power at the solenoid and engages but does not turn. . Ari Ari, these might be a stupid questions: I assume the battery been checked properly by a battery specialist ? What happens when you connect jumper cables to the battery ? When the engine turns while jumper cables get used, it usually means that the problem is not located at the starter. Danie P.S. The offset on the Sidekick rims is actually better than the offset on my white rims. Do you think a 50mm lift is still too low for the Bulldogs ?
